well, I think I am going to make a new website: a forum.
the forum will be about graphics, art, drawings, photoshop, gimp, painting etc.

I'm going to host it on a free hosting site with unlimited bandwidht.
    it's going to be phpbb.

but you guy's tell me, if it's a good idea to have it on a free hosting site. it's my only option:D

and could you guy's help me making a name for it.

I thought of "drawing lifes" . as you see I'm really bad at making a name for a site.

could you guy's give me please some examples of how I can call it.

    thank you for your attention

If you do this, I think you should also host a Contest-solution like this(where people can compete about the best design and the winner gets paid):

    Code:
    http://studio.topcoder.com
... I've seen more and more sites like this pop up, and I think it is something that could get viral fast...

As long as you can use your own .com or whatever domain name.

Don't use a free domain from the webhost. That's the worst thing to do.

And if you're serious about the forum, maybe plan on making money from it one day, go for a VB forum. They're so much better. Also look at VBSEO for good SEO.

I would recommend a decent paid hosting service. Hosting Gator is cheap and is one of the best out there. They're hosted at The Planet, so their up time is excellent.

And about a domain name, you want a dot com no matter what. Most major websites are dot com... don't waste your time with a dot info, etc.

Those are for marketers like us, cheap and throwaways.

    Good luck, forums are work.

well, to be really honest. I don't have any money, so I can't give any money. I know a hosting is like $1 per month. but I don't have the money. so that's the reason I chose for the free hosting, with unlimmited bandwith.
and the Vbulletin maybe I can download that via torrents

I don't have the money and that's why I also don't have a domain name. I get a domain name with the free hosting. they give me a free domain name and the free hosting.

I know this may sound pathetic to you guy's, but sorry to tell it's true

    dear Gogeta,
thanks for this great offer, really thank you.
    I appreciate it
but like I said, I also can't buy a domain name:(

I was thinking of changing the free domain name in, something like this: w3.example.co.cc or a .co.nr

Free hosting with unlimited bandwidth translates into lots of down time and pissed off members if you can manage to get people to sign up to your forum.

What is going to make your forum stand out compared to all of the hundreds of sites like these already online?

Not trying to shoot you down, just trying to get you to get creative with your ideas.

Bad idea for free hosting. Plus, what about your ads!

Cmon...think about it. It takes money to make money...Geeesh..Even a little money.

    Good luck!

damned, well, your right in some points. so...
    what to do now.

I thought it would be a good idea, where users can share there tallents, drawings, paintings etc.

I know it takes money to make money, but it's not the right time for me. maybe in a year or two, I can change it into a "more" proffesional forum.

well, it seems to be not a good idea. well, so...

you guy's think I shouldn't begin with this?
or should I try it, and look if it will work out?

Don't think negatively before you even start. You should do it but try to think it through a bit more and see if there is a way to use a paid host. Free hosting is terrible. There are a lot of low cost hosts out there. One of my sites is on A Small Orange (weird name I know). You can get by for like $7/month

Also, phpbb is a joke but if you can't afford vbulletin you might have to go with it.

Running a forum is a lot of work mate.

I've been running mine like a second job for 2 years. It does ok, bringing in £400-500 a month but its fuck all compared to the work and effort I have to put in it.

All I'll say is if you are going to make a forum don't piss around with shitty free hosting or free forum scripts.

Get vBulletin, spend some money up front and make a serious go of it.

Also, when you start a forum ignore what people say. Spam is good. PM spam the shit out of people on other sites.

Post a thread, PM every responder privately and invite them to your site. Also, don't just copy the rival sites. Dissect them, look at the things they lack that you can add. Cloning a big player is pointless. You need a WOW! factor - something new to set you aside.

I have database access to a graphic design forum with 30k members. If you want the email list it's yours. Might add myself as an admin and fuck them around for a bit while I have my spanner out in their guts :p

A mass email to 30k people once you've made your site look amazing could give you an almighty kick up the arse.

    Code:
    http://www.theadminzone.com/forums/
This is an amazing site for advice on running forums, I've learned a lot on here.

I started my forum on Hostgator a couple years back. We're now the second fastest growing globally in our niche. It isn't hard to build a large forum, you just have to put a lot of time and effort into it for little reward.

If I'd dedicated the time I spent on my forum to IM I'd be minted right now....

i have considering this for a while but i shied away from it after careful consideration. this should, by no means influence your decision.
    ask yourself the following questions:

do you like people... meaning do you have good people skills?
    are you a good motivator?
do you have great leadership skills?
are you very passionate about the topic of your forum?
do you know how you are going to sustain it financially?

these are just a few of the questions you need to consider. i left it alone because i couldn't figure out very concrete ways to monetize it.
