This might be a simple thing, but I read and read, even implement.. but i'm stumped!

Over a month ago I started a site which i'm targeting 30k MS globally, it's a site like cnet.com where it's a bunch of articles on [niche] or reviews on products [in that niche]. But i'm stuck as to how I rank my main keyword, let's just say my niche is "fitness equipment", how do I rank for my main keyword "fitness equipment" when my frontpage consists of the latest articles that are products in said niche?

How does Google find my main keyword if my homepage only says my keyword in the site tagline?

I've been told to create an authoritative article (2k+ words) with the correct on-page SEO for that keyword, which i've done.

I'm sorry if I have worded this really badly. But it's hard to explain.

Use a static homepage. Start ranking for LSI before focusing on main KW.

May I ask, what does a static homepage do compared to a latest post homepage?

With my articles i've been targeting more broad, so i'll start with smaller volume keywords, should I then mention my main keyword in my articles too?

Static homepage means your homepage is an article, where you can optimize it for different KW, you won't have excerpts with duplicate content.

Links Links Links...And High QUALITY links to make it more specific.

Look... doing all the onsite seo stuff is fine and dandy. Not telling you shouldn't do it...BUT...

The longer you are in this business the more you will see firsthand that LINKS RULE and everything else is FAR FAR down on the list. The simple truth is that you CAN rank for that keyword without it even being ANYWHERE on your site. I don't exactly recommend you do that, BUT, you most definitely could. You could also rank it with the worst content you've ever seen. Simple truth is that Links solve just about ALL ranking problems.

Good onsite helps you need FEWER links but it does NOT take their place. Yes, you can rank for SOME low end longtail stuff with nothing but good internal linking and onpage seo, however, if you're chasing kwds with higher traffic than that, you're going to need some good links. Probably some "bad" ones too but that's a different discussion. LOL...

For your particular onsite issue, I'd make sure the kwd is in the title of the homepage. Even if it's not in the body or on the page anywhere, MAKE SURE it's in the title. After that put whatever you feel like on the site. JUST GO GET LINKS. That's a quick version of how to rank. How to make money off the site is a WHOLE DIFFERENT subject.

    Good luck.

I don't see why you can't rank any keywords unless it's too much competitive.

I also have a site which is showing latest various articles.

I also have main keywords, but I optimize them with individual pages and posts.

I don't rank my homepage for main keywords because I just my homepage to rank for my brand.

    F.e:
    - my site is: www.mybrandabledomain.com -> I rank this for my brand keyword "My Brandable Domain".
    - My main keyword is: www.mybrandabledomain.com/my-main-keyword-01 -> I rank for my main keyword "My Main Keyword 01"
    - The same thing with other main keywords as well as secondary keywords.

The only different is that if I want to rank much for my main keywords, I create a dedicated static page for it. In addition, I create the authority ultimate high quality contents aims for it.

Otherwise, the secondary keywords are just normal high quality contents.
