Motivation is the fuel that we need to keep going. I always say that if you want to get from point A (your current situation) to point B (your goal), you will need: 1) To head to point B - This is about setting goals, planning, and staying focused. 2) To move forward - This is about productivity and motivation. See, the motivation is the fuel you'll need to move forward, to get things done, and to love what you do. You may think that you can still accomplish stuff when you're not motivated, as you can simply force yourself to get stuff done. Big no. Self-discipline never lasts, you'll break sooner or later. How can you stay motivated? Here are some tips that work for me, hopefully you can try them and pick the ones that work for you. Remember, every person in the world is unique, so this is not a step-by-step guide to motivation. You will need to try to find out what works for you: 1) Get something tiny accomplished: One of the reasons we feel unmotivated, is because of the size of the task that we are about to do. If the task requires a big amount of work, or thinking; our mind will prefer to run away from it, usually by procrastinating. So the key here, is to get started. And to get started, you need to convince your mind that the task you are about to take is not that complicated. To do that, firstly choose the task that you want to accomplish, and think about the very small step that you can take, which takes you closer to accomplishing the task. Make sure the step is really small. For example, if your task is writing a blog post, the step can be: Opening WordPress adminpanel, and choosing a draft title for the post. After accomplishing this step. You can do it again, another tiny step. Just make sure you are promising your mind that you are not going to do the whole task, just this next tiny step. 2) Don't over-plan: When you are planning your daily schedule, make sure it's something that you can accomplish. Preferably, make an easy schedule at first, till you get used to follow it. For the same principle of tip #1, you don't want to have so much things to accomplish. I understand that you want to get more things done, so you can get to your goal faster. But this is wrong. If you just speed up and try to accomplish as much as possible during the day, you are not focusing, you are not taking the time to get things done right. This was one of my biggest mistakes. I am an ambitious person, and I want to have a lot of stuff. That's why I was over-planning, I was speeding-up and I was just focusing on getting more things done. By this, I got a lot of stuff done, but they were done just because I had to get them done, and the results were really inefficient. So slow down, you are much more productive when you focus on less tasks. 3) Make positive vibrations: This is a great trick that I've learned from Steve Pavlina. And I want you to try this now. Choose something that you really want to get done, but you are just too lazy or unmotivated to do it. Now, close your eyes and imagine you've done it, imagine the long term result that it'll help you get. Feel it, enjoy it, and smile. Keep doing this until you get the vibration wave, that motivation to get up and get it done. But still, don't open your eyes, hold it a little more for even more motivation. You'll notice that it's like riding a wave of motivation. It feels great, and it works like wonder for me. 4) Watch motivational videos: This one is similar to the one above. But instead of imagining, you can use motivational videos to make the positive vibrations. I suggest you to take some time, and find out what videos really get you motivated. Save those, and watch them when you need. Remember this one can be a great excuse - so make sure you are not just procrastinating, or running from a hard task by watching too many of these videos. 5) Use a physical diary: I found this one really motivating. It feels great to stroke a task that you've accomplished, no matter how small it is. This should get you motivated to get more done. So if you don't have a physical diary, try to get one and see how it works for you. 6) Start the day in a good way: I've found out that whenever I start the day in a positive way, I stay really motivated for the rest of the day. However, if you are a night person, this may not be much useful for you. Those were the tips that help me the most to stay motivated and to get things done while enjoying it. Remember that it's probably different for you as everyone has a unique situation. Try each of the tips, and see what works for you and what doesn't. Maybe what motivates you isn't even on this list, but once you find it, stick with it.
