7878 Method Success, please read

So I finally put it into action, with some changes like everyone should, and I had my first meeting today, and probably could have sold them. In the back of my mind I realized I probably shouldn't ask for money without having them sign a contract and told them I needed to do more research about their company and I'd write up a proposal. Anyone who does SEO or ORM do it without contracts, or should you only do it with a contract?

Just realizing that there's a lot more to this I hadn't thought about before I jumped in head first and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Having a contract or something written down on Paper is always a good idea. It protects both parties and also looks more professional.

depends on which country you are in. here in the US people will think you are retarded if you dont work based on contracts.

Remember..if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!

If you really want to succeed, you should do everything in a good way, at least.
So of course contracts are important and you need them.

Doing business without a contract is like digging your own grave.

I typically write up a proposal and get an agreement via email or Skype from the client. In that I outline what I am going to do for them as well as put in pricing.

An actual contract per se can put off some of the local guys from my experience.

Do it with a contract, also write down everything in contract like what you're accepted to deliver in how much of time period, etc.. This will be safe for both parties.

If you're signing them up for the long term.. get a contract signed! It protects everyone.

Tools such as Proposable make things like this a bit easier.

Man I have a new little twist to 7878 approach, and have been doing IM ORM for some time.. Im very excited for your success in taking action and I'm also excited for myself in taking action.

Sometimes you need a contract, sometimes you don't. I have some long term guys who call and we have no contracts. Others its a contract on every transaction. Just really depends on who you are dealing with. But generally you should always use a contract. Consider CONTRACT is a whole set of LAW, with hidden legal ramifications, like 3 day right of rescission. The worst would be getting sued and not having any contracts established. Emails could be considered but what about tweets or posts? Save yourself from this by having a contact.
