i disagree, in the uk in th late 70's The Jam's record label famously started buying hundreds of thousands of records to get their artist into the charts, they had 18 consecutive top 40 hits.
This is just a contemporary version - good luck. If you can beat the major's mafia hold you'll be Robin Hood!
Why not put them on a an app as an incentive - surely a downloader will get some sort of receipt as evidence they completed the sms.
You could use a code in the reply to activate the user. Or even better get the sms to produce a ping to a server where it then becomes incentivized

Thanks for telling me this, I have always wanted to release one song I had made and recorded - but didn't knew any frickin way to get it off the ground , best idea I have ever heard in a year or so.
Edit like 10000songs at the ending add your song stating your artist name/song title and upload them to kaza/limewire/dc++ / torrents and watch the wild spread!

Go to facebook look for the top uk groups and fan pages on facebook. There are many I know because I a promoting a uk offer. Contact the admins. Most of groups don't make a lot of money. Offer them a good amount I am sure they will be willing to get this to there fan base. Other great thing is to do the same thing on bebo.com most users on bebo arefrom uk young like 15 to 25 with cell phones and crazy for music.( i e- whore on bebo so i know user base) Same thing can be done with bebo groups. Paid advertisement on bebo can be a good idea as well.
