There is a guy on reddit who posted with the title "I make about $10,000 a month as a copywriter" (Can't insert link here because I guess it qualifies as spam)

He makes it look kinda easy and legit. Just wondering if copywriters can really just approach big businesses and land 6 figures within a couple years... or is this guy selling something in a non-direct way?

Why not? If he has an army of writers...

This can be achieved. But it would be possible with experience only.

I'm pretty skeptical of the post. Even though it sounds legit and is feasible, the only two comments I read (the top two) are promoting a book he read that was "great" and the other is a website where you can "make even more than he is making"... sounds fishy to me, but certainly there are people making that much. You won't be able to do it though with personal writing gigs. Most would have to come from businesses looking for freelance writers.

Met writers with real talent, people who can pull out HIGH QUALITY, a 3-4k words / day with no problems. And I've always wondered why emeritus writers out there don't get tons of money when such targets are at hand.

So when you get $10 / 100 words for your skills and you're making $300-400/day, you're killing it.

Well learning the skill is still worthwhile, download stuff from here (link)
Wow, thanks so much.

I'm new to all this, and I'm literally desperate to make money (have a family with small kids, living with a family member). People like me, who are new to some venture, just want to be told, in practical steps, what to do--at least to attain a small income. There's a vast sea of information out there, and weeding the good from the crap is getting more and more difficult.

Anyone ever heard of Agora Financial? Their top copywriters are banking 8 figures. They get a base pay, and royalties. Otherwise, most copywriters are making their money from royalties of successful campaigns. That and copywriting is a skillset that can immediately create rewards by selling a product. It's not unheard of to ask for 4 figures to START a copywriting assignment. Royalties are generally part of the deal, because it allows them to REALLY incentivise their efforts. They're basically working off flat rate+commission.

This is very interesting, you would need a ton of people to help you accomplish this.

From my standing point I didn't think it could be done but that's pretty crazy.

I wonder what this guy's catch is then?

If they are trying to sell you a copywriting course then obviously, things are never as easy in real life.

It is, from my experience, that most self-proclaimed gurus make more money selling their education courses than they ever did in the industry they are educating.

Writing is one of the worst things ever, especially if its about some retarded topics it literally the worst thing ever. I dont know how people could sit there and write all day about stupid shit

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that everbody else hates it.

Haha.. this morning, I didn't feel like writing and you made it all the more worse. But, I get your point. It's not everybody's cup of tea. There are those one-off times, when I don't like it too, and it's my bread and butter. lol.

As far as I know, six figure copywriters do exist. The population is a minority though. As you might expect, one's skills needs to be top-notch to reach that income bracket.

Yes, it's very possible. Not even that hard if you know what you're doing.

Used to clear six figures easily writing directly for clients. Of course, having a team is obviously better, since if you have a team, you can make up to infinite money, since you can complete up to infinite projects (at that point it's more about your managerial and marketing ability).

Pretty sure @Sherb clears six figures and pulls at least a decent part of that from writing work.

The guy from that Reddit post could easily be full of shit for personal reasons. Regardless, it's definitely possible.

Probably -- But you don't necessarily have to work with big businesses. Wouldn't even necessarily recommend it.

Also, you don't necessarily need a couple years to start making six figures; you need to be good at your job and good at marketing yourself/your business.

I'm tempted to get into it. I'm currently a writer of a certain black-hat variety. My wife is Chinese and we work with students in China wishing to get into top Universities in America. So we write their entrance essays. The pay is fantastic (~$300 for 2 pages, double spaced) but the work is not regular, and it's seasonal. So I already have the foundation, just wondering how my type of writing can translate into sales.

Go for it, there are some decent downloads in the CW section https://www.blackhatworld.com/forums/downloads-copywriting-sales.173/

If you are already writing for a living then it is a good start.
