$5000/Month Web Agency Journey

Congrats on your first client! I'm also hoping to build an agency in the future. Gonna follow along your journey :)

Can I be one of your free clients?
I'll leave a great testimonial that would boost your reputation.

I'm really trying to work in the real world, you know getting clients from the forum would be very easy and all I'll get is a testimonial. In the real world it's much more difficult but not only will I get testimonial but Experience which will help me in the long road. Appreciate your help though! :)

Hey guys, I've starting a new online business. Much of like a web agency where I provide web development service. To avoid any competition I'll not exactly name the service that I sell, instead will refer to it as web development service. In the past I've started and failed with some journeys, and after every failure I get more worry that if I start another journey and it fails again, I'll look like an idiot. Wrong mentality indeed. So I'm starting a new journey again with high hopes and big dreams.

Goal: $5000 per month
I'll sell my services from $200-$500. Let's say $300 for easy math.
I'll need around 16 sales to hit the target, like 1 sale every 2 days.

I'm actually working on this since 2 months.

1st month:
In the first month I learned about the service and built a website. Wrote content of the landing page myself and designed myself too. I got one client, got paid like $90. As I was starting I kept the prices low. But the client was unhappy with the work. I decided I've not enough skill to continue and stopped the project.

2nd month:
I acquired more skill from online courses, I read a lot of blogs on the subject, youtube, e.t.c. I know my copy wasn't good because it was my first time so I ordered the copy from fiverr, used a premium theme which gave my site a more professional look.

Current position:
I'm searching for 5 clients to whom I'll provide my service for free in exchange for a testimonial.

Problems I'm facing right now:

Location: I operate from my home in a third world country, I'm no company or a big agency with a registered address. The clients asks me where's your company based? Lol what to say?

Providing Access:
Clients are not willing to give login details to the site. Lol how am I suppose to do any development work without logging into the site.

Trust:
The above 2 problems is related to this, they don't trust me. Can't blame them, I don't have a registered business address, I'm living in a third world country. I got no testimonials, because I'm just starting.

I want to begin this journey by a quote which shall remind me not to give up along this journey:

"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."

$300 a pop, that's a really great biz. I'm very curious what kind of business are you building? care to spill some beans? ;)

Update: 1st project complete

Completed the first project, It was very late though, I was also working on a different business so time gets divided. Anyways, I've email the client with the project completion report and waiting for his reply. Then will email him asking testimonial.

Also I'm talking with some other leads, I hope will get the second client very soon. This first testimonial will make it easy to get further clients.

If you want to add more credibility you can have them make a video review instead of a normal written review. Good luck on your journey.

Still struggling to get a FREE Client to build portfolio.

After little discussion, he said let's proceed.
This is what I get for requesting login information to the site.

Most probably, they don't trust you because they don't see any story behind your company. Start a blog around your topic and you will see clients melting and falling into your hands.

Hoping you succeed on this great journey. Will check in soon.

It's a tough business, seems like you need to do more studying on how to sell.

Okay, I have read all your replies and posts on here and I am pretty sure I understand what business you are in. It's a tough market you are definitely charging less than others but the quality is probably lackings the optimization is probably lacking, the content is probably lacking as well as design. But I do like your attitude and "Persistence" and like you said all those other things can be fixed. What if someone was to back you? Say for instance I have the professionalism and better things than what you bought on Fiverr I also have the know how to do the job including all the things I listed.

I am USA based and have a strong presence and authority to business owners I have many people on a daily basis give me login not only to their website but GMB page, emails etc.. with virtually no questions asked.

PM me if you would like to discuss further or at least gain some knowledge on how to conquer your goals.
Thanks!

Update
Free Clients: 2/5

Ok so a lot have happened in the last few days. The first client was happy with the work and left a good testimonial. Yay! I completed the website and launched it, with faq, contact, pricing page, checkout system, e.t.c. I didn't mention before but the website was under construction, just a coming soon page. I got 2 more clients to work with.

There's just a little problem, I was working on the live site of the 2nd client and the site broke, nothing big just some pages looked odd. A css problem. It was like that for like 30 minutes before the client panicked and send me like 6 emails back to back lol. The site's fine now. I need to learn how to work on staging area now.

Also I've decreased the prices to around $240 - $280. I'll increase when I get sales.

So thats it for now. I think I'll have 5 clients to show in my portfolio in a week or maybe 2. Then I'll start selling.

This is going slow, it's been like, 20+ days since you started the thread but...
Looks like you know what you're doing :) All I can do is wish you a lil' luck!

Is this still going on?

Do you ask for an upfront payment before you start working, or clients only pay once they seen the final site?

Yes, still going on.
Currently I'm providing my service for free in exchange for testimonial, but yes later I'll ask for upfront payment.

Good luck and keep going, you will stumble upon many problems, but it is all going to turn out well if you just keep going, best advice I can give you

Problem with creating Staging environment.

I'm trying to create a staging site for the 2nd client. I tried the duplicater plugin but it didn't work as the site size was too large even though I excluded the uploads folder. I also tried All in one wp migration plugin but it has 500mb import limit, the export size was 700mb.
Now I'm trying the wp staging plugin, it's cloning the site to a subfolder. 30 mins and 17% completed lol.

Best way is to copy the files and database manually but getting admin access is so difficult asking for cPanel login is not an option.

Does anybody know a better way? some help will be really appreciated.
