True. True. True - costs go up quickly.

I had an idea for you earlier but forgot it by the time I got back to the computer. Something about getting the "Socially Viral" plugin for WP, setting up the website, then coming back here to BHW and somehow sell viral posts on the website (can generate traffic/leads...).

You can easily get it going for a fraction of that cost. If you don't write the content yourself, the costs will start to add up quickly. I started a viral content and humor website with a buddy of mine two years ago and we found it quite difficult to generate a decent income from it. The good thing is, at some point people will be willing to submit free articles to you so you will get some free content. We even ranked first position for some longtail keywords which made up the bulk of our organic traffic. If you do this type of website, be prepared to have to continuously update it with content daily and promote it on Social Media otherwise your traffic could plummet. It can be tedious and a bit annoying at times.

Yes, cost to build website not much. Theme + Logo ~$200. But cost for content & marketing is
a lot.

If you use the article as a guideline and rewrite it into something original you will be fine. Make sure there is a clear differentiation between the two and run it through a plagiarism checker. Many people use other articles as a guideline and rewrite it into something original anyway. The topic and sub-headings don't matter as much for list articles as there are many articles in this niche which are very similar and done by many websites eg: The Top 25 Best.. The 10 Most.. etc.
 
You can do it with much less if you have the skills, adaptiveness and dedication to see it through. But if you have to ask you probably don't. So don't invest more than a few hundred dollars to try and make it work on a small scale. If you start getting a positive ROI, start scaling up. But just throwing $5000 at it while you're not sure what you're doing is a recipe for disaster.

I don't throw $5k on starting. I mean $5k is enough maintain until i have profit.
 
A viral website theme for about same price. like Facebook ads, etc????
 
A viral site will cost between 100usd and as much as you can pay.

Viral Nova started on WordPress as a one man show and lasted for a long time like that.
