There's no separate category for Product Creation or Copywriting so I've taken the liberty of posting this in the general Make Money section instead.

Long story short - about 10 minutes ago I wrote a (relatevely long) email to a person who wanted me to write the sales copy for her upcoming e-book. Previously I had quoted her $3,900, she had accepted the quote and I thus had a few Skype chats with her, reviewed her product and exchanged a few emails with her.

But after having done all that, I decided that I don't want her business and sent her the following email:

Why am I posting this here?

Because there's a lot to learn from it if you're even thinking about creating your own product - and it doesn't matter if you order the sales copy from a newbie, from a professional or even write it on your own.

So many marketers fall into the very same traps over and over again so here's your chance to learn from other people's mistakes, rather than from your own ones.

    Cheers,
    Bryan

I've already ranted about this a few months ago over at the lounge: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...e/221673-how-i-made-2-384-less-than-week.html.

Believe it or not - there's a lot of good stuff out there. It's just that for every good product there's about 20 horrible ones :)

Thanks man I think i can take a lot from this. I'm coming to the end of writing my e-book which has taken me a hell of a long time (well over 10k word at the min).

Although everything in it is nothing new and groundbreaking, I am hoping to appeal to the complete noob to making money online.

I would love to see a product creation category on these forums so that you guys with your knowledge can share the love with us noobs!

Out of curiosity, what was her reply when you sent that to her?

Any chance you could elaborate a bit more on this? What was your offer to get testimonials?

I offered her three methods actually:

    1. Contact industry professionals / authorities (by far the best method). Not suitable because it involves too much work. (lol)

    2. Pick a forum, become somewhat active and reach out to VIP / veteran members, sending them review copies and asking them nicely for testimonials. Not suitable because they'll probably upload the ebook to warez sites. (lol)

    3. Last resort - find a few "I will review your product for $5" gigs on Fiverr, order 20 or so and pick the best 4-5. Not suitable because a) it involves too much work; b) the people will probably upload the ebook to warez sites. (lol x2)

    k man thx...

I was struggling to come up with ideas for testimonials and I think my best option at the minute might be to get my friends to go through my course and delay my launch till they start making some money and can provide testimonials and proof.

You should've offered her your ebook - the one being sold at the marketplace. ;)

Yep - if you've got friends who are willing to review your product then that's obviously one of the very best options. And the fact that you're willing to delay your launch until they've actually proven that your strategies work makes it even better.

Unfortunately, in the above scenario neither was the case.

Yea I did also make a FB fanpage requesting for pre-launch testers, had a few people signup. Also have about 5 leads from email submits. My only problem with these guys is I don't wanna give them it free to test, only to have them never come back to me with any feedback.

Seems I just gotta find some friends with free time on there hands!

... which is an incredibly cheap price I might add.

And no, I'm not a copywriter, only write (for others) when I have spare time and select my clients, as well as the niches that I cover, very carefully.

No, because this is not a sales thread.

And just for the record - I don't want people PMing me either as I've got way too much in my hands right now and the only copy I'm going to write in February and March this year is for my own products.

This thread is for educational purposes. If I wanted to sell any of my services then I would talk about it in the correct sub-forum (BST).

Amusing read but frankly you also describe 90% of the ebooks out in the marketplace. These ebooks all read alike as though they were all spun from the same hamster wheel. And we all know about the sad truth regarding hamster wheels!

    Yup, sad but true.

And what's even more sad is that she probably WILL find a copywriter who will gladly take her money and write her a sales letter. If she's lucky then she'll even find a good one that will hype her product up bigtime. I don't want to be in her shoes when it comes to processing refunds though ... :)
