If you're in the US the Big Lots warehouse chain has a 4GB Emerson MP3 player, 1.5" screen for $25 until Oct 17. I got a couple today and one is charging now. The store I went to today had stacks of them on pegs in the electrioncs section

NO it's not an iPod or a Zune or Sansa or whatever. But it's a dirt cheap nice little player with a screen for videos and 4gb of storage. I'm completely allergic to apple, itunes and all their other evil works. They will never get a dime from me. Irrational sure. But f*** any apple whores who want to school me on the merits of that particular cabal. go blow.

    But anyway

I like mp3 players that are just drag and drop with no tacky proprietary formats or software so they can also be used as a jump drive. I want to open an explorer window, drag stuff around and go on my way. The only ipod envy i've had is not having video. But I want it for cheap! I want a jump drive that plays music and videos, not a "lifestyle device". There's nothing I need to watch on it, I just WANT to have a little screen. Maybe I'll test this one with LOTR . . .

This one is cool cause it's pnp so you can drag n drop files, so need for the software interference like S0ny players. It comes with "video converter software" bat all it does is convert avi to mp4 and resize to 128x. Easy peasy, you don't even need to install it to get videos ready to play.

I'll test it out tonight and post my opinion if anyone's interested. Anyway, 4gb for $25 with video! Even if it's only good as a jump drive I'm happy

If it's a decent device I'll get a few more to put on CL, esp around the holidays: generally they're $40 or $50 and I can stick them in as emergency holiday gifts. CL between Thanksgiving and XMas is a whirlwind of desperation, people will pay anything.
