BH EMD site went to #1. So yes, EMD is (still) a great ranking factor.

As per my personal experience, G has not considered EMD as over optimization. I have 9 EMD websites and all are sitting at #1 (pre and post update). So its still a great ranking tips. Go ahead and try it out.

EMD 1: Unchanged top 5
EMD 2: Climbed 12 Ranks to #1
EMD 3: Climbed 4 Ranks to #2
EMD 4: Unchanged top 5

From what I have heard, is that very long EMDs do get penalized, with that I mean something like this howtotrainyourdognottobarkatpeople. I'm not sure about that and whether it is true but common sense tells me that it is.

Lol, I never thought to make website with so long domain name...so can not comment on that. All my EMD websites are 2 words (couple of them 3 words)

EMD is not considers over optimization but G just dont give as much credit to it nowaday

All 3 of my EMD is now gone from page 1. I cant find them on top 100 anymore.

I hate penguins now

Forget about EMDs, penguins are attacking.
2 years ago I could rank an EMD (original content) in 2-3 weeks on first page. I bought 5 emds last month:
#1 not in top 100
#2 not in top 100
#3 ranking #14
#4 ranking #23
#5 not in top 100

As you see... it's much harder this days. Google explained last year his feelings about micro niche websites "a bad idea".

If you wonder why I still bought 5 emds last month... because I was stupid, I saw this video last week.

If google does not appreciate this kind of websites, I think it's time to do something else: Big Websites, build a brand etc !
