I'm about to make my first EMD websites, and I'm interested in everyone's thoughts on EMDs (com/net/org only) after the 4/24/12 Over Optimization announcement.

Did your EMD rankings go up or down since 4/24/12? Please say if they're white or black hat.

Do you think EMDs are now considered over optimized just because of the domain itself? EMDs that are not brands and obviously keywords.

my EMD went up in rank. It was white hat, about to be black hat but I was dragging my feet on building the links. Now I'm glad I didn't.

Few of my EMD's went up, a few went down. The update has nothing to do with EMD

Well it seems like there's no conclusive answer on EMDs. Some got hit some didn't.

It means "exact match domain" which is when your domain is a keyword with no extra characters and ends in .com, .net, or .org. For example if the keyword your targeting is "figh bait" then the EMDs would be only fishbait.com, fishbait.net, or fishbait.org. Thus, fishbait.info, fish-bait.org, and fishbaits.org are NOT EMDs.

I think that EMD actually saw a boost, as long as the other variables (not sure what yet) were OK.

Why? Because I'm seeing a shit-ton of EMD parked domains ranking on page 1 for SERPs. Most of these sites have never had any optimization done such as linkbuilding, and are sitting comfortably on the first page.

One query I searched yesterday had 3 parked EMD's ranking on the first page.

"[EMD] means "exact match domain" which is when your domain is a keyword with no extra characters and ends in .com, .net, or .org. Other people are a bit less restrictive in defining an EMD. An EMD with ANY top level domain extension is a valid EMD (i.e., fishbait.biz), it just may not be the kind of TOP TLD (com, net, org) extension desired by most seeking an EMD. A domain with the exact keyword in the url plus characters or modifiers (i.e., fishbait2012.biz) can be argued to be a legit EMD, though not ideal, from the perspective that it's the appearance of the exact keyword in the domain that drives its ranking, not its exclusive presence in the url. When researching top TLD EMDs, I frequently encounter non-top TLD EMDs or EMDs with modifiers in the top positions.

I disagree. In my opinion whenever someone sees "EMD" they're thinking exactly the keyword with a com/net/org. I wouldn't consider modifiers on a keyword an EMD. A good domain perhaps but not an EMD.

EMD will be still very important factor. So do not hesitate.
