Recently I’ve promoted a SOI CPA offer that resulted in +$327 for me. Since I get used to documenting my campaigns, I’ve decided to share the steps I’ve taken to get that result here. The ultimate goal was to limit my ad’s cost and get the most profit from the offer at the same time. Hope this will be helpful for those who want to take into this industry and start promoting CPA through paid ads.
Here’s the campaign’s overview:
Offer: Gaming SOI
Payout: $1.80
Traffic Source: Adsterra
Ad Cost: -$237.53
Leads: 311
Rev: $561.60
Profit: +$327.07
Initial Testing Phase
The campaign was not profitable in the first 72 hours after running. However, with some optimization, I could reach the first break-even on the fourth day and after that, it starts to become green.
Here’s a breakdown of how campaign performed in the first 7 days:
As you can see, in the first 3 days, I just spent on traffic to gather enough data (~$15.60) and it resulted in:
1- Low conversion rate. I was expected to get better ROI in the first run; the volume of traffic was good but the CR was not good enough.
2- In the first initial test, I always target a wide range of audience to gather more info and because of that, the offer showed to people that may not be interested in gaming. This is normal in most of initial campaign test unless you run it through a whitelist.
Key Learning:
I tested different LPs to find a suitable one. In the first run of testing I chose to go with direct linking. The targeted geo was united states but the traffic was not consistent and I think it was because of the gap time between my local time and targeted geo.
Optimizing Campaign
After let the campaign run for the first 3 days, I started to optimize campaign based on the following factors:
Targeted Audience: I looked at zone IDs to see which campaign performs better for what group of audience.
Creatives: I’ve removed not-converting LPs with low CTR from the campaign. I started with testing 5 creatives and end up with choosing 1.
Adjusting the bid: As you can see in the table, I reduced ad spend after the first 72 hours to manage my budget and I optimized campaign at the same time, so after the first week, I spent $23 and got $112 in return.
These changes were implemented on the fourth and fifth days then break-even happened and after that, the campaign became green. (profitable).
My 2 Cents:
1- Always let your campaign run for at least 3,4 days and never go through optimizing it too soon. You will lack enough data if you do that. CPA campaigns need enough time for analyzing and testing to become profitable.
2- If you ad network allows, only target the people that are interested in your niche (offer) after your initial test. God is not playing at dice, so don’t put your gaming offer in front of finance audience in the hope to get conversions by chance.
I’ve used Adsterra for this campaign but the process is the same and you can go with other well-known ad networks.
Good luck with your CPA campaigns : )
