301 redirects. Do they work in this way?

Suppose, I buy various different extensions of my domain and redirect to the money site. Will that have any affect on the rankings of money site?

Money site: mysite.com

I buy the following:

mysite.eu
mysite.org
mysite.net
mysite.in
mysite.de
my-site.eu
my-site.org
my-site.in
my-site.de

And redirect all these domains to the money site.

Will that have any affect on the rankings on money site?

The reason why I ask this is because I know of a site that is ranking on first page for keywords that are very competitive. Other sites above and below that site have thousands of backlinks while according to ahrefs and majesticseo this site has less than 300 backlinks. I am trying to determine how this site is able to rank on first page for such competitive keywords with less than 300 backlinks. I was thinking that maybe these redirects is the reason for this but these other domains have zero backlinks and are less than a year old.

Nope it will do nothing... The reason is that these other domains have no authority, no history and thus zero link juice... It is a total waste of time... The only use it provides is the prevention of other folks using your domain name with another TLD extension with regards to protecting your brand...

You could build links to your various redirects for better results.

Exactly, there is zero effect as all these domains have no authority and thus will not bring any link juice.

The only thing you could do is if you make a brand and open some satellite sites to deliver unique content on each site re different services of the main money site. However you would need even more authority links as you would need to also link to all these satelite domains.

These days its not the number of backlinks that counts... But the number of authoritative ones which have high trust metrics... I'm avoiding the use of PR as I don't use that at alll these days.... Personally I dont bother with spam links from comments, forums etc... nofollow spam links is a wasted effort... I keep my backlinks really low and further I dont even bother with using target keywords for anchors... The trick is to have great on-page seo with silos... Just a handful of great links can get the job done... In addition your links need to go to nested pages... so you're going to miss that if you are looking at the link profile for the home page....

That got me thinking.... Its long winded but it does offer some protection... If you build links this way and you get a penalty (penguin) - you can easily reverse the penalty by removing the 301 redirect lol... The link juice coming from the redirect will also be reduced versus a direct link to your money site... But that might be a good trade off due to the safety aspect... That aside I dont know if G is smart enough to realize that a new domain with no history and authority with 301 redirect is going to impact your site directly but you sure are leaving a strong footprint with gaming the serps when firing backlinks to it...

No, it won't help. But why not build out some of the other TLDs? Good for preventive reputation management and building out isolated sites for different keywords.

The site could have thousands and thousands of links, which are hidden from ahref's and majestic's crawlers.

300 backlinks isn't too small to rank even for competitive keywords. The quality of the links is what matters the most for ranking higher. Also, there could be hidden links pointing to the redirected domains and the site could have other 301s that haven't been picked up by link crawlers.
