301 Plugin = Deindexed PBN?

So yesterday I had about a dozen or so PBN's de-indexed. All except 1 domain links to money site. I took the necessary steps to set these up, used a handful of different hosts with different IP. Most have privacy. Decent content with themes.

So I 301'd PBN#1 to Moneysite and it drops about 6 positions. Waited about 2 weeks to see if it'll move and it didn't so I turned it off a couple days ago and Pinged both money site and PBN#1. Now PBN#1 and almost all my PBN's linking to it have also been de-indexed. Did this happen to anyone else?

If you're using 301 redirect plugin for 404 pages, then yes, that will get it deindexed. This started happening a few weeks ago with Panda 4.2.
 
Nonsens, i have all my sites (200+ by now) with the 404tostart plugin none of then are deindexed, you probably got deinexed because your PBN sites look like PBN sites
 
Would anyone else like to confirm if this is true or just bs ?

I have just purchased my first pbn domain and I have added the 301 plugin.

Just my luck :(

i have heard some weird news say use 301 redirect plugins could get your PBN deindexed


In my opinion, maybe some other things happen in your PBN too, so it just one of the factors
 
Once a PBN gets busted, this is the default behavior, they nuke all the blogs because it's easy to find a footprint and follow through with manual action. Not saying it's the case, but could be.
 
A few of my clients have come forward in the last 3 weeks saying they lost domains when they were using that plugin, so i've started recommending custom 301s to posts instead to avoid the footprint. Granted, I haven't checked their PBNs to see if they had any other footprints, but it is a nobrainer - it can be picked up pretty easy - 404s to 301s, so it's better to just stop using that plugin and manually redirect those old locations to existing posts.
 
People just using 301 as a hammer in a dark room. Without knowing what is this exactly, you will bring your PBN, your money site, your business only damage.

Never 301 to homepage. Never 301 from fried domains to your money site.
 
Correlation does not equal causation. Not sure how anyone can run a sizable PBN and narrow a de-indexation down to a single plugin when there are so many other potential footprints...beware of the BHW echo chamber.

My opinion as well, there a loads of legit sites using this plugin without the slightest problem. If it's useful to 301 every 404 to start (soft 404, google won't redirect the linkjuice anyway) is another story, but this won't cause a site getting kicked. There must be other reasons.

Yes and anecdotally no issues on any of my sites.
 
It's not about the plugin, it's the combination of 404 crawler traffic and 301 redirects. A lot of traffic (ie backlinks to non-existing pages) and 301 redirect WILL get your site deindexed. We did an analysis on over 5000 blogs when that happened. Lots of owners of large PBNs confirmed this.

Sorry but i say bullshuit, having this plugin installed for years over more then 200 sites that i own myself and all these sites are doing just fine, makes me think your test/analysis is wrong or your conclusion is, i would love to see some hard data on this plugin, i am willing to bet big that OP isn't indexed because of that plugin.
 
eitherway fault of the plugin or not, its always bad practice to 301 redirect 404's to index instead of passing it to an error handler.

We found the large majority of deindexed blogs in the latest sweep (Panda 4.2, July 2015) have in common two things:

- they're doing 404 error redirects,
- they have a large number of 404 errors (meaning the old website had a lot of subpages).

In exact terms this looks like this:


- 80% of deindexed blogs have 30% or more of all traffic redirected to homepage.
- 90% of indexed blogs have less than 5% of all traffic redirected to homepage.
