I'm in a really residential area at 3am right now so probably wont pick up much passing traffic! But the wifi is working and I can connect to it so it looks good so far.

What is your landing page like? Without giving too much away. I'm skeptical this will work and I live 400 yards from N.Irelands biggest Hospital charging £8 a day for wifi.

Not got a landing page set up yet.
The system I USED to use was Cloudtrax, a free Wifi management system, it has nice (editable) built in landing pages which could be used for this method, or just charge for wifi like any other paid wifi hotspot (sorry, don't want to get off topic).
Example
But now I am using DD-WRT as I already had the router and I think it might have more capabilities for this method.
As for a landing page I might just buy a cheap domain (www.freewifimytown.co.uk and send visitors to that with instructions in various common languages on how to get access, e.g. download an App or complete an offer and a link to a content locker.

What do you think the CTR will be though?
For every 500 visitors it would be maybe 5$.
I could be wrong, you need to try this asap and let everyone know if it works or not because everyone who has bought a router never says how much work they put in or anything.

Can you Please Tell me more Information about How to setul router ? I already install dd-wrt on my tp link and i really dont find any solution for captive portal ( to redirect to my own website ) i do that on my router without internet connection can you please tell me some guide how to do that ? did you use your portable router ? or did you use your phone and connect your router to your hotspot from the phone ?

I think someone else mentioned the problem here is that the CPA clicks would be coming from 1 IP/network
This method looks amazing but such a turn off with that problem with the ip's. I was just thinking ways to monotize these, the only thing that comes from my head is promote some fb page , making the user liking the page. Then use affiliate links in that fb page to promote some specific niche.

Been following this thread for a few hours now. So:
1) Is it possible to offer your own wifi for people gathered at crowded places using the methods of the OP or a respondent?
2) The whole idea is, I think, showing a page when people log on to your wifi (on which page you have your offer). Right or?
Been seeing stuff about how IPs will be the same or not or whatever. Another thread descending into doubtfulness for me : /

Do you guys have any idea how much illegal shit goes down on public wifi? Craiglist scams,carding,porn whatever. If you do this expect plenty of heat.

Say 10k people connect to your wifi a week. I guarantee you are going to have 200 people do something really illegal on your network and those server logs are in your name. Then when the cops come knocking even though you are not doing anything wrong they don't know that you catch what I am saying?

Is putting a disclaimer any good? Something like "We take no risk from what others connect to this wifi do..." and everyone logging on to your wifi must accept that statement before doing so?

I have been getting a few PMs about what I am doing so here it is.
- Using Netgear WNR2000v2 router (Becauase I had an old one so zero investment).
- Flash with basic DD-WRT file "dd-wrt.v24-15962_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR2000v2.chk" via Netgear browser interface.
- Then upgrade firmware to the one highlighted in the first picture via DD-WRT browser interface.
- Now choosing a hotspot 3rd party system from the available list in the second picture, I'm thinking 'HotspotSystem' as it has a free package and landing pages, I even saw some SMS code verification option, could go very BH with PIN submits (but I'm not going to do that!).
