In a large online store, 300,000 noindex pages suddenly appeared in Google Search Console (filtered results). A few days later, the website’s traffic was cut in half.

Do you think there could be a connection between the two?

If so, what would you recommend doing? Here’s what I’m considering:

I’m planning to disallow these pages via the robots.txt file, then remove the filter feature that allowed these pages to be generated in the first place (users don’t actually use it, so it’s unnecessary).

However — wouldn’t this result in 300,000 404 pages all of a sudden? Could that cause another issue?

I’m having second thoughts. I’d really appreciate your advice!

Do these noindex pages have a similar format, like someone forcing keywords into a search page output?
Or has perhaps someone else working on the site clicked a checkbox they shouldn't have?
