3 years for violating MySpace TOS!

damn that's rough i dunno why someone would want to push a kid to kill em self

That's the fucking bitch that harassed that girl, impersonated someone and convinced a teenager to commit suicide, that's the only thing that they could prosecute her with to punish her. IMO anyone, especially an adult who targets someone, including that young girl who convinced another young girl who didn't have many friends, social engineering them and pretending to be an online friend, confidante and boyfriend and then months later telling her to kill herself, still impersonating her as that friend should be held liable for their actions, depressing and grieviously beating the girl up mentally as if it were some sick game that they got a kick out of. If some sociopath did that to my little sister or daughter I'd get even. Then again, I don't have a little sister or daughter.. I hope the bitch accidently hangs herself in there.

She probably deserves a little more than that. Maybe they should send her to the men's wing of the prison?

Well i hate that. People need to grow up especially adults acting like kids. She had no right bullying that girl till she killed herself. She needed to be a role model for her own child. But hopefully she will get what she deserves.

The woman is obviously fucking deranged, and I think the fact that she is that age and a mother herself only makes it worse. 1 year is definitely not enough for that sort of psychological torment. If I beat up a 13 year old girl I would be in jail for more than 12 months I'm sure. She abused the girl for 6 weeks and even got other people in on the "joke", all of whom should be punished.

justone pointed out the more serious long term outcome of this crime.

Jailing someone because of a violation of the terms of service in an online service means everyone doing SEO and creating false accounts is at potential risk.

This is indeed a scary precedent that people at BHW would be well served to keep track of.

give her life in prison! and not allow her to use the internet ever again!!!

No actually, she cut the contact telling here the world is better off without her.
That woman should rot in a cell for many years, but the problem is that her case can influence everything.

I think the risk is near to zero right now, but it still sucks.

you're right, while the focus of this decision was not based on SEO, its definitely going to play a part in later court battles.

It is a horrible thing. This means that there will be precedent (previous rulings) that the lawyers for ANY website (including you or I) will use to file charges for violating ANYTHING that they put in their TOS.

This is not the end of this battle in the legal realm. Correct me if I am wrong please, but I believe this means that if you violate ANY TOS you will be in jeopardy of facing criminal prosecution.

So if in my TOS I say you have to provide your real name and address and you violate that by providing false information, criminal charges can be pursued?

Your opinions on this?

I'd recommend far worse than letting her rot.

The rotting should happen to her daughter while she and the rest of her family watches.

When her daughter finally dies from the rotting, then start the rotting on dear ol mom.

I'd like to say 'kidding!' now, but I seriously wish I could think of something worse for her.

violating ANYTHING that they put in their TOS.

my TOS would say "the fee for crawling and indexing my site is $1,000,000 per page, per crawl"

does anyone have any other articles regarding this? The current one 404'd

That's sad. I hope she gets some kind of punishment. It'll set an example for others.

I say execute her! lol

That is murder!

She deserves more jail time!

I doubt she was convicted for violating the TOS because thats a civil offense. The TOS is a contract not a law.

She probably "hacked" into myspace using a stolen account or emailed thru an open smtp or unauthorized proxies -- thats using an unauthorized computer.

any lawyers on the board care to comment???

lol oh believe me when the inmates find out wat she did then tried to mess around again. whooo! shell be wishin she hung herself the day she got there.
when it comes to crimes against kids, prisoners carry out street justice.

While I think this bitch should rot in prison, prisoners (i.e CRIMINALS) carrying out street justice are no better than her either. They're god damn criminals, who do they think they are bringing "justice" to another criminal (regardless of the severity of the crime)?? They should all just shut up, do their time and mind their own business. prison + criminal + street justice is an oxymoron IMO.

She needs to be hang not jailed, this is fucking sick cyber crime!

This is such a sad sick story.

I hope justice is served.
