I have been working on a website for almost 3 years now. The niche is video game reviews, mostly indie games. Tons of unique content and decent viewers. But very little monetization.

I am partnered with a video game seller for affiliate sells, which in 3 years has made me $76. Youtube has earned me about $45 by posting videos.

    Traffic:
    59% organic, 17% direct, 10% social,7% referral

Anyone have any ideas for monetization?

3000 views monthly is a very low amount of traffic. Nearly all of our sites, with very little work done in the last couple of months (1 site is 3 years old, 1 site just over a year, and one site is a little over 3 months), are doing close to 3000 views (600-1000) uniques a day.
I think you need to step up your game when it comes to driving traffic. More backlinking and lots of new creative content.
Whatever you do OP, don't quit! It's taken a long time for me to get to this point where all the hard work is beginning to pay off.
Remember, we miss 100% of the shots we don't take.

    Good luck!

You're just have reviews, so better add adsense. Incase you offer any hacks, you can try content lockers otherwise it won't help.

I'm pretty sure it accepts any website as long as it has content and people that visit the website.

The following websites are not allowed to use Adsense:

    • Adult content
    • Content that advocates against an individual, group, or organization
    • Copyrighted material
    • Drug, alcohol, and tobacco-related content
    • Hacking and cracking content
    • Sites that offer compensation programs ("pay-to" sites)
    • Sites that use Google Brand features
    • Violent content
    • Weapon-related content
    • Other illegal content

Review websites are fine as long as they do not violate Adsense's TOS.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

Try adsense for sure, although my curiosity strikes again, Most games i see these days contain violent, adult, drug related content (this is why many people play them), could that be a factor when adsense is reviewing a game review site?

If you managed to rank a website high enough to gain 3k in monthly visitors and you still don't make enough from it, most probably you're having either a sales page / call to action / content issue, the niche you're in really sucks (funny cat pictures won't make you rich) or you're promoting some kind of billionaire-only product that only happens to generate sales for every xxx thousand visitors that read for website. OR your traffic source simply suxx. Popunders from Romanian adult tubes most times don't exactly apply for the most sophisticated referrer origin one can imagine.

I don't get it!!! why would you waste your time on adsense with 3k views monthly !

If its a review site, why not trying to sell some stuff. games related products. register on SAS and search for products related to your niche ...

    Also try CPA .

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON ADSENSE !

I haven't done any SEO as of yet, it doesn't make sense to me to spend money to get traffic that doesn't convert into money?

Without a clear monetization aspect, why would SEO be the most important factor?

    Also, what is SAS?

Some people actually spend money on SEO when they get their websites started so that they can receive traffic first, and then they monetise the website later (there are social networks that have done something similar in the past). You don't have to hire an SEO specialist/agency to do this for you since you can learn to do it yourself and save money (assuming you have the time).

Thank you Zwielicht, but I would think 3,000 views would be enough of a sample size to test monetization. I understand the purposes of scaling and optimaztion, but if I can't figure out how to monetize 3,000 people... would i monetize 30,000 any better?
