1.) not as much as they used to
2.)even less if you use reciprocal links specially if that site and yours aren't the same niche
3.) many directories the page your link is at are so deep and that page isn't even indexed which makes the link useless.
1) Are they worth the time and effort?
If the directory is do-follow and have a good pr, yes
2) If so do most of you use the reciprocal link, or just send your link
Just use the free link
3) Do you have any success with sending deep links opposed to the home page
If the keyword competition is low, you can be in the top ten google rank with just directory submission
This site here has got about 1000 free directories to submit to
http://www.adirectorylist.com/directories?free=1&pageSize=-1
You can see the ip's so you know when your submitting to a link farm.
- Only problem is that you can't sort by pagerank yet.
- Also there a few identical ip's
What I've done is I use imacros
(its free here)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3863
Then I record about 7 scripts, most of them have the same fields, so its easy.
Then I just hit play and in a few hours I've done about 300 submissions.
Probably saved myself about $20 - $30
