If so then yes, as long as you are able to get your videos go viral, then you will have traffic, and with traffic you can earn money.

Short answer yes. I wouldn't use the exact method because youtube is a little smarter now, but I imagine there are ways around it

Why don't you just try something and find out for yourself.
Do you have the money to buy views? Does your internet support that amount of downloading and uploading? Do you have an adsense account?
If yes to all then just do it! Take a dive, stop wondering, make some money.
If it doesn't produce the earnings you want then move on and try what works for you.
