You're too close to give up. Right after exams is going to be a good time to hit those cards again.
University students are ok but they rarely have any real money. Instead, you may want to focus around condos and apartments where Seniors are located and can afford at least cable. Don't go to the low income side of town. They don't have money. You're looking for people who have some money not dead broke.
I don't know UK so can't advise on exactly where. Which is why I limit training consultants to the states and Canada. However, I can tell you that you'll have better luck with people in the 35-55 year age group, who have a job. Those are the people to focus in on.
This time of the year is the ideal time. Right before Summer. You just have to identify where your market is and go there.

I'm currently training local small business marketing consultants based upon this membership program. It's always amazing to get their emails expressing their surprise at how easy it is to get clients. People are asking how to hire them. Today, one of the Interns emailed me that someone had wanted to hire him full-time to work and another wanted to hire him to help with a website they were struggling with.
No selling involved. Just following the step-by-step program I've created for him. He was amazed because he had already spent a year trying to sell his SEO services and had found it excruciating painful. As an Intern he discovered that there were clients "everywhere". 8)
The point is, that even in this economy a membership site can be very successful and profitable. However, it is important to know exactly who your market is and make them an offer based upon what they want. It really is that simple.
The most difficult part is deprogramming yourself from all the nonsense the gurus try to brainwash you with. I spend about three weeks just trying to convince my Interns that selling doesn't work.
Don't get discouraged. Don't stop working it. Don't over think it. Don't make it more complicated than it is. It does work. I'm using the same techniques I've been teaching in my posts to expand my consulting firm nationwide. The techniques are scalable. Just be patient with yourself.

I too would not recommend jr colleges or Universities.. I had a killer custom scripted job website where you could post your resume and job listings, search etc for free.
Made money from CB in adsense format, banners, mailing list, OTOs etc... I put up 8.5x11 but in landscape format (90 degree turn) with very professional graphic, clear website , makes you want to go into the class and type it in, or tear off a piece of the cut strips, etc... barely got anything.
Next, I went to a job fair. 100s of people looking for jobs.. Passed out my revised squeeze copy:
on the back side:
I wore conservative khaki shorts, with a white classic ralph lauren polo shirt. Timeless styles speak to the subconscious. I had on black versace sunglasses, my white gold iced out day-date, ankle cut socks and tennis shoes, and I carried with me a black leather notepad binder, its like 10" x 13" x 2" or something, and holds sheets of lined paper, a pen, etc.- point is, I had the look of a young professional, who reeked of $$$ & success, due to having a special insight, and being on the inside track. I'm in my late 20's but dressed like I was in my 40s.
Passed out hundreds of these flyers, and ended up with a CTR of about 4.4 % however with an average visit length time of 3:47, I didn't make anything. So remember, CTR does not equal $.
I would highly recommend keeping it in the newspapers / classifieds / local prints / weeklys / etc.... Its really a targeted numbers game, but you have to be really really smart about it. I may have over thought things in the past example above - so this time it will need to be more simple... - I didn't have to color copy 100s of these cut outs, and seek out job fairs, or jr colleges.
I feel that most people at the JV or Univ will be skeptical at best, even for the most brand name legit offers. But I feel that there are more outdoor advertising methods which, when tied in with the the ideas of this thread, will yield the best results.
Guys, post up your success (or not so successful) adventures pertaining to the methods discussed in this long ass thread.
As for me, I will be trying this out in the local weeklys etc for a different type of membership site..

Thought I would touch base with you and see how things are going with you?
Someone here has in their signature, something to the effect, "You only fail if you quit before you can succeed."
I thought how appropriate that saying is to any business.
You've heard that sales is a numbers game. I agree but I would add, that to be profitable, the trick is to "use the same numbers."
What this means is that if you fail at this don't start some other business. You've learned some important lessons. You've learned what doesn't work. Each time you try and fail you learn something new. The faster you fail and make mistakes the faster you get to success and profitability.
However, you can't do that if you're always changing the business.
Take Edison, the inventor of the light bulb. He failed 1000 times before he succeeded. But his focus was on inventing the light bulb. What if when he tried to make the light bulb work on the first attempt and failed, he gave up?
What if he threw away the idea and started something else like the phone. First time out, it failed, then he tried inventing the camera and failed his first time out?
The point is that it's ok to fail. It's expected you will. Don't give up because you failed.
I'm training consultants who are struggling with some basic concepts. They were brainwashed my Maria G. (who's now on a mobile marketing kick because offline marketing was sooooo profitable for her) and others that all they had to do was walk in and ask for $15k and the business owner would simply hand it to them.
I have to deprogram them before I can train them to succeed. Part of that deprogramming is to convince them it's ok to fail. It's ok to make mistakes. This is all necessary to learn what really works.
Once they get through the first month they discover how easy it is. How easy it is to acquire clients. I even provide them with a powerful marketing tool that will produce their first client for them automatically within about three days. That first client is important to them because they will refer other highly qualified clients to them. That marketing tool will guarantee them even more clients.
But if they give up the first month because the assignments are "too hard". Where does that leave them? To go back and try selling their book? Making money with MLM? Working for a company? Ewhoring?
What makes more sense to you? Allowing yourself to fail and make mistakes to learn how to do something and make serious money or quitting because "its too hard" and they failed?

If they are unhappy, then they can simply cancel.
It is really no big deal, stop looking for a way for this not to work.

This is excellent to follow for ANY business. But for me, it hits home because BHW makes it too easy to find one idea - try it out - it fails - then go on to the next big "I made $500 overnight" thread! I am guilty of that, but your words put into perspective what I SHOULD be doing.

Hey I haven't read through the entire thread so maybe this has been mentioned before but doing free seminars would be a great way to stir up some traffic and subscribers.
Add a few seminars to your business card and flier distribution and you'd probably get faster results. Just a thought.

My advertising experience has shown me that you get a minimum of 1% return from business cards.
So 1000 cards gets you 10 customers, which isn't too bad.

First my apologies for not responding to the thread. It's been a very busy season for me. The economy has my consulting firm working over time with new business.
I've had a lot of people recently contacting me about the membership site. Although I've conducted two free seminars on profitable membership sites, some of the noobs are still struggling.
Let me throw this out there and just see if there's any interest. And by interest -- I mean real long term serious interest. Not interest in just making a quick couple of bucks and ditching it next week.
I'm thinking about creating a health membership website. There will be lots of opportunities to promote Clickbank type products on the site. My firm will create all the content. The website. You place it on your server and you maintain it.
This is for noobs. If you can create your own content and website please don't start trashing the idea. This is for those who are struggling to make a membership site work and want to make a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month. It's not intended to make you filthy rich. Just put some extra dollars into your pocket and give you an opportunity to experience success.
Obviously, I'm not going to be providing this for free. There will be a small monthly fee. It will include training and marketing tools for promoting your membership site OFFLINE.
Only if you're serious, PM me.
I need at least 20 serious people to make this worth my time. We're coming into a good time to launch this. If you're serious then now is the time to contact me. I'm going to give this about ten days and see if there's any interest.

This is a fantastic idea. I have no doubt that this would work. More people should take action.
Heck, you could just offer them a free website, and then host them via
Hostgator, making income from that, and getting your business cards placed.
How can one become a JV partner ?
