Hi all,

I have exchanged 2 links from my site A to the partner's site.

In exchange, the partner has given me 2 links from the same page to my sites A and B.

I chose that page because it was high-ranking on relevant keywords.

Is it a problem? I have both sites under the same account on Analytics so Google knows that both are mine.
Is it okay for me to do a reciprocal link exchange like that, and get 2 links to my 2 sites from the very same page on the very same paragraph?

I feel like this is playing with fire, but the page ranks very well and I want to take advantage of that opportunity.

Here is what the partner's page looks like :

Text text text text text text text LINK TO MY SITE A text text text text
text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text
text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text
text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text
LINK TO MY SITE B text text text text text text text text text text text text
text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text

Is it very bad or is it ok to do it once, given that I very rarely do link exchanges or black-hat techniques?

Thanks!

no backlink can hurt your ranking.
if this was the case, your competitors would have swamped your website with "bad" links.

some links may not help your ranking.
you can never know which.

Makes sense. But negative seo is still a thing, isn't it? I assume the difference is the sheer number of bad links?

Just 2 links to different sites don't hurt. But you have both the sites under same analytics account. So don't over do with it.

I can only speak for myself and other colleagues of mines experience.

we never experienced negative SEO as a result of backlinks.
and believe me I know all the "gurus" and "experts" out there, what they say and how they are using fear to bring them customers.

There's a big misconception, especially when you have a new website with a little number of backlinks,

then you send some links, and you see the ranking drop, or pages de-indexed, so people think this is because of the bad links. it isn't.

Once you get backlinks, the site content is bumped in line to be reviewed by the google algorithm for quality, and usually this is the reason for the drop, not the links, BTW for GG, quality isn't just not duplicated, but also a content that bring something new, and not say the same as other.

if you have good content (!!!) and you keep building links, you'll see a steady grow of ranking, up and down, but altogether in the up direction.

and again, I can only speak for my experience, this is not something i read somewhere or someone told me.
