About to start my first official business

I have failed and gained much experience trying affiliate marketing. Blackhat and not

Sales Funnel

I want to make sure I am understanding this properly

Paid Ad -> Opt-in / Landing Page -> Sales Page (VSL, Text-Based, etc.) -> Affiliate Offer

Then in the Landing Page obviously try to give something away for free in exchange for an email or similar

I failed initially with affiliate marketing by not having a good offer. Also didn't have an opt-in / landing page

I would appreciate feedback on whether or not I am understanding this properly at this point

Building a mailing list, like you are suggesting, is absolutely a great way to use affiliate offers.
 
The key is making sure your freebie is valuable and relevant to the main offer. Your pre-sell page needs to warm them up effectively. Don't underestimate the power of solid messaging and testing each step. Good luck with your venture.

You got the funnel right, most fail cuz they skip the opt-in and waste every paid click.

Freebie only works if it ties into the main pitch (supplement → free guide, SaaS → free checklist, etc).

Outta the box test short story-driven presell page between opt-in & sales page, can 2–3x conv rates.
