Wish I would have knew that some registrars sell your info and now I'm getting a bunch of phone calls and emails about my domain. Its mostly offers to build my website and shit like that. I know godaddy does it which is why I will never go thru them or 1and1 . Anybody know of a registrar that doesn't do scumbag shit like that?

Was whois protection included in your purchase? Are you sure, that your contact info wasn't simply scraped, because your whois isn't protected? Whois protection costs a little extra and usually it's not part of the order by default.

most that are calling people are just scrapping the info unless you have the who is privacy. Just like people do when you reg a business with the state. The next week you will start getting a ton of calls and a bunch of junk mail.

Uuuggghhh.... nothing to do with registrar. Just u where to cheap to buy whois privacy

The whois was supposed to be protected but that was bs, fuck them. Yes I heard of privacy protection, asshole.

I would not be the least bit surprised if they are selling your info.

I used them for my first site way back when because I knew nothing. I did no research when I decided to do business with them as I was greener than algae.

Worst.
Registrar.
Ever.

1&1, worst register ever, about info leaked it can be through your hosting company also :( I had such experience, specially email sucks !!!

Same story with me and GoDaddy. Then I went from Godaddy to 1&1.

If I knew then what I know now...

From what I've seen, nearly every ICANN accredited registrar does the same crap. Any time I register a domain name, its not 24 hours later I start getting emails that its time to pay my bill and send in my seo bullshit.

We went to the same school, just took different classes - Knucklehead University.

I went from 1and1 to Godaddy.

Well you live and learn.

I use Namesilo now. It was recommended here (by you, I think? Or maybe some other senior members) so I switched all my domains over to it. I actually love the free privacy protection. And I haven't had one problem out of them. Not one.

Once godaddy blocked a domain i purchased after a month and still. I was obliged to switch to NC and change everything (my favorite for now)

On a parallel note, it can also be your email provider. Every one of them scrapes your conversation for keywords to serve ads. They might also serve you email ads from affiliates. I get a bunch of mails with web designing and similar offers every time I register a new domain in Namecheap. I don't mind much as they have a good customer care that makes up for these.
