#1 on Google ... Till I got the Amazon slap

A salutory tale ...

Last month I had been waiting for the new Amazon Kindle Tablet to be released and a couple of days before the big day, heard it might be called "Fire", seemed to fit with Kindle so I rushed out and bought about 10 TDLs all with combos of Amazon Kindle Fire in the title.

A bit of a gamble, but it paid off when they confirmed the name.

Using my favorite 2 SEO programs and a couple of SB blasts I got several #1 on Google & all in top 10 in less than a week, which I thought was pretty cool since I was up against Amazon, Youtube & several other big News orgs.

All was going swimmingly till yesterday - Amazon complained - very nicely - and want them back - Offering to pay the registration costs too !

So nothing lost 'cept the time setting up, and since I got a cool prog that builds WP's in seconds not too much of that.

Moral of the story - You can get #1 on Google for competitive KWs but steer clear of Trade Marks.

If they have offered to buy them from you, it is nice. Give it to them and collect your money.

Usually big guys like Faceb00k, will send you a threatening email. Atleast Amazon was nice enough to offer the registration fee.

You were really lucky. They could have shut down your Amazon affiliate account since it was a breech of the TOS.

Yep - They could have really gone to town, but they did not.

Their email was polite to the point of being concillatory.

I have already replied with NP to returning the domains.

It only happened in past 24hrs - They said they would re-imburse registration costs in full.

I have just replied today asking how they want to proceed.

.. I was about to buy a domain related to kindle fire while ago but i was hesitating to get because of issue like this. At least lesson learn

I don't see why all this praise for Amazon? They should at least pay a scalper's fee of a couple grand per domain if they want to be looked at as nice. What does a couple grand mean to a them? Otherwise they're being assholes too.

I'd have told them where to go, then made various blogs about amazonian wildfires.

Once they had given up and gone away i'd have switched back or sold them on.

Yep, I almost bought a few domains myself however decided to go down a different route instead (writing good articles about the Kindle fire to try and gain conversions.

My friend ordered a few and one for me as well since he's in the US at the moment and I'm in AU.... so looking forward to that.

That was a clever idea! I'm glad that Amazon treated you good. I see some auctions on Flippa with trademarked domains. I wonder how they get away with it.

Lucky it wasn't eBay... they C&D you within 2 weeks of a domain registration if that. I'd hand over the domains or park them if you feel like being a d!ck. lol

I would go ahead and sell them. then go back in a few days and see what they put up on the links.

Then i would go and buy new ones and do the process over again. Maybe change up amazon a little

In my experience, amazon is really one of best companies online. They are very friendly and easy to deal with.
