#1 in Google and No Clicks?????

if you have goog;le webmaster it will show you keyword impressions,clicks and CTR, as said above there might not be rally ppl searching for that keyword. generally any too broad phrase will have ton of results but not so many searches. I have few keywords with about 1300 searches a month and it brings me about 20 visits per keyword per day on #3 - #6.

Google keyword's not too accurate. They say I've got 8600 search results for the exact phrase I rank number 1 for. In google webmaster it shows I've got about 1200 people searching that phrase a month. A bit of a discrepancy there I'd say.

Another thing to keep in mind is what kind of search results are being pulled up in that traffic number. Does the google keyword include image results? I suspect they do. One of my keywords has virtually no one searching for it in the regular search, but about 20k people searching it in images.
 
So how do you determine which search terms to go for?
 
Op first of all i am little confused you are talking about clicks? I took it as you meant visitors...

You say 1300 searches per month... now there are few question which comes in mind

1) 1300 is it exact search volume
2) is it Global search volume

May be it's broad search then exact might be very small, small enough to not get searched daily... If it's global then may be it's not getting searched in every country and you might not be ranking in those countries where it's getting searched...

If it's combo of both then LOL you got the picture...

Now question is how do we do these keyword research when different tools provides different results for same keyword... No tool provides correct result so what I do is pick all keyword tool which I have access and then search my keywords through it... I only check for exact keyword and mostly in USA... Country could be your choice but only exact searches...

You will get different result but you will some common ground, a rough idea how many searches are in that particular niche... Now go check for competition... Search with quotes, inurl and intitle and you will have rough idea of how competitive any particular niche is... Also check how many of top 10 are article sites or web 2.0 because they are easy to outrank... Also check what kind of keyword are they... Informative, buyer keyword... is there any CPA products available in market which can be combined with your site so you can make more money...

Pick such keywords which got search volume and low competition... Now question yourself which one you want to go first... :) If you will work before making site or promoting it then you will not have to question again why I am not making money even after ranking...

Keep your site neat and clean with good content and ads optimized so if people start coming then you can get best possible return...
 
Thanks for all the info. I am pretty good at SEO and I thought when choosing a keyword to go for besides checking the competition I was following the google keyword tool to determine the amount of searches to see if it was worth while.

What I am talking about is that I am ranking well for many "good" search terms and according to google keywords tool each search term generates 1,300-30,000 global monthly searches and when I refer to search term I am only talking broad search...

My sites come up for these search terms doing a broad search and yet no one is clicking on my site. I am in positions from #1 to #20 and nothing coming through. Thats what I mean about clicks.. no clicks on my site in the SERPs.

This is where I am lost. I chose these terms with the idea to rank good and pick up the traffic but being ranked number 1 and 2 for a result that is supposed to get 1,300 searches monthly and I have generated about 5 searches in 5 days.. I am a little surprised.

Well If you're already in the top position then the problem has nothing to do with seo. You've accomplished that. That only leaves the actual human factor. They're seeing your listing but choosing not to click on it.

I think in that position you're best bet is to really look at the other results coming up in the listing and see if they seem to be more clickworthy. You say that you think your title and description are good enough to attract a visitor, but apparently not. Study your competetors titles and descriptions so you can get some ideas on how to tweak yours. You're just gonna need to do some testing and see what helps.
 
The searches stats is way off in many cases. The best thing to do before ranking
a site is to run adwords for exact phrase you want to rank for. You will see how
many actual searches it gets then. Once you found a killer phrase then you
unleash your SEO campaign :)
 
There are basically two things that I do right now to determine whether a keyword has any volume in Google at the moment.

#1 - Try to find the search volume of the keyword phrase in exact match

After doing this for so long, I have discovered that the exact match search volume that the Google KW tool gives you is a more accurate representation of the search volume that you should expect to get....regardless of whether you actually type the kw phrase in broad match in Google.

So look at Exact Match data!

#2 - See if the keyword comes up in Google Suggest

This lets you know if the keyword is presently get searched often.

Hey Man, you are not the only one in this boat. my 5 sites rank #1 on google. no visitors coming.
but my junk site is working much better, got over 1000 visitors per day. i have no idea what happen.
i am stopping build those site, it is not working even you are in position 1.

This is obvoiusly one of the problems you could be having... but make sure to also take a look into what Greywolf said...

I've have a site ranked #2-#4, and had TONS of impressions, but no clicks. Basically what happened, was google is including my site in the SERPS for the purpose of Diversity. The thing is, everyone searching for my keyword is looking for the other meanings of my keyword, not the one i have ranked. Keywords can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different searchers... get inside the head of your searchers! When i did this, i quickly realized that no one was typing in my keyword to look for what i offered...

Studying your competition in the SERPs can tell you a lot. Are they similar sites? What's different about them? etc etc.
 
Check if the ads are related to your nitch. This might be one of the reason.

I am ranking well for quite a few keywords. I particular keyword I have #1 and #2 spot and its for the name of a particluar product which I guarantee for its weird name that no one is searching for a video game or something. Its supposed to have 1,300 searches monthly. The title is straight to the point and description tells them "basically" its a good deal come check out our other related products.

So I realized yesterday that one of my sites was setup to webmaster tools which i forgot about. It happens to be the site that I am ranking #1 and #2 spot for a particular product that gets 1,300 searches monthly. According to webmaster tools I havent had any impressions on this search. I have been in this good position for about 1 week.

I think i read that you said you used broad match data? Or was i wrong.. 1300 monthly searches on broad is dick... if you're not getting any impressions, sounds like that term is not getting searched...

Yes, I am using broad match search information. Should I only be researching with exact match data?
 
The traffic your site gets is genuine or applying some blackhat methods because its really strange to hear that your site is no 1 through some keywords and not even getting 1 click.

This is genuine. I have been working on this site for a few months targeting a bunch of different terms and this particular product/search term has taken #1 and #2 and no clicks. The couple clicks that it has is probably me.
 
The two questions I have is what is Google actually displaying and I think the others are right in questioning how much real traffic there really is for that keyword.

The other factor too is what is your call to action once the customer gets to the site? Is the message clear once they get to the page? Are they arriving and leaving within 30 seocnds?
