I've now made a total of 180$ in my first week, with 10 articles (from which, 9 were set live only 2-3 days ago).
Thanks everyone for you comments
Great ! Congratulations !
Now, here's what I usually do at this point:
1- I keep
periodically adding new links ( from new web 2.0 sites; other free blogging platforms - just re-write the main article a little as I told before -;do-follow inteligent comments on related blogs; forum signatures; etc ) to EVERY asset I already have ( including Digg and Propeller posts, for example ). You'll most likely see some kind of boost whenever you do this.
Look for what's ALREADY in the top 20 on Google, Yahoo and MSN and try to get your links there. Usual targets:
Tag pages - greatly overlooked - of web 2.0 or scraper sites you didn't know existed, blogs, forums, web 2.0 and article sites.
Places like
Flickr, although many times links are no-follow, can be a good traffic source in themselves, are easy to use and their links DO count in my experience. Get an image from your manufacturer, affiliate program or whatever and submit with optimized description and a link back. You can submit the picture to Flickr groups, create your own groups, submit new feeds, etc
If you used Tubemogul, you can go back to the sites you submitted to and optimize your page/channel, leaving a link too where you can, of course.
Don't use the exact same keyword as anchor text EVERY time. Use also secondary keywords, although less frequently, of course. Don't overdo on-page optimization, either. Around 5% for main keyword and natural inclusion of secondary related KWs should be fine. If your pages have good backlinks and age, you can get away with more, but don't overdo it. If you do get sandboxed, a Digg usually gets you out of there ( this I learnt from another member here in BHW, can't remember who, sorry )
In Squidoo, Scribd, Bravenet kind of pages, try to include big LONG links in the first sentences of the page, and include your main action words in it. I could get CTRs on these of 60%+. If you're using certain general affiliate programs with medium-long term cookies, this tip is really very good. Trust me on this one. If you've time for it, use at least 3 different links on each page: put the first in the first paragraphs, the second in the final ones and the third everywhere else. This way you'll see where your visitors are clicking. I know there's some free tool to monitor this but never tried them.
Study your stats from places like Squidoo and Scribd, and optimize your strategy accordingly.
Ping and submit EVERYTHING you can. If you don't have a feed for sth., go to
Feedmarklet, make your feed and submit that feed.
Interlink and structure your assets wisely.
2- Repeat all of the above targetting a second main Keyword for the niche ( pay special attention to buy/action KWs, particularly if you're not building a list on the subject ).
Interlink these assets with those you made before. That's one great advantage of using web 2.0 sites: every page you add already links with the others naturally in one way or another, and your profile keeps getting stronger. You can even "work" the web 2.0 sites, including your pages/documents in groups, commenting and linking back to your page, etc.
3- Once you've established yourself in a niche, well you know... Just go back once in a while, check your stats and do a little maintainance, add a link, ping/ submit, keep things fresh and move on if you were not interested enough to build a list for it.
Stay on top of trends and do promote upcoming popular products. Go from there to niches, instead of the other way round.
The best of luck to you and keep us posted with your progress !
