How did he get that many followers?

Thats impressive, im gonna scrape the shit out of that account and start following them all myself, thanx for the share.

Im following them from one of my generated accounts, so Im assuming they probably starting getting big then alot of bot/spam accounts started following as well.

I think mostly because he is posting really funny quotes from his father... so people are following him for his awesome idea, not because he has done any tricks or something.. (he is only following 1 person! so his followers are no auto-follower but instead real persons!).

thats crazy ..never seen so many before, i will maybe also follow him :)

I do not believe that this person getting that much followers due to his tweets. Didi any one see that he posted tweets in 5 to 14 days difference. And still people think that he gets that much followers due to his tweets. Even top celebrities are not getting that much.

"Shit My Dad Says" is a new TV show coming on this Fall (with William Shatner).

Whatever this person is doing to get his followers is in ultimate preparation to take advantage of all the coming searches for that show.

And if his content is similar to the show's humor (as suggested in earlier posts) this Twitter account will probably just continue to grow as the show actually starts and has people searching it on the net.

Pretty smart idea whoever it is.

P.S. I know people are all about "CPA this" and "CPA that" to monetize things... but if I were you I'd seriously consider creating a physical book with the same title. Maybe you could have your own little franchise like Chicken Soup for the Soul.

Just wanted to throw that out there because too many times people get caught up in the new "bright shiny objects" to realize that the old traditional ways of making money still apply - and sometimes might be more profitable because everyone else is off chasing bright shiny objects.

This twitter account has been around for a while and was what the book and show are actually based off of. The guy was a comedy writer and just wrote down things his dad said on random topics. The guy never really planned for this, just happened. Just goes to show what can happen when things go viral. Rob Corddry and the Daily Show really helped his account take off.

Good for him.

Plus it's a great example of just do something. Get something going and moving forward.

There's no way he sat around for months (or years) going... well if I set up my site this way, based on these keywords, around this niche then at some point in the future I'll get some good PR, publish my own book, have someone create a TV show about my idea, etc.

He just wrote some funny shit his dad said and create opportunities as they presented themselves.

Good lesson for those who are still trying to "figure it all out" before they launch their first site.

Thanks for sharing this and for all those who contributed - just another story for me to keep in mind as I keep moving forward.

Mike
