Sure. You will need to use curl to get the HTML and grep to check if a word (your site url) is found within the HTML.

Tags are good for your onsite SEO. Tag pages are not really high ranked in the SERPs, but it happens.
Also, it's good to disable the indexing of the tag and archive pages, so you can avoid duplicate content, since the search engines are already indexing your category pages.
It's much easier to communicate over Skype or GTalk, than writing bunch of message on their system. It's the same everywhere. I'm working on oDesk for 4 years and after few messages (just making the deal) we go to Skype/GTalk.
