They can remove answers if someone reported the answer. The community is pretty strong and members monitor quality of the answers. An affiliate might have come across as spammy to them.

I think neilpatel.com has stopped giving links to comments. Also they've removed all links from comments acquired over the past several months.

I too was hit with a manual penalty. I used a tool called Monitor backlinks to find out the links to my site and tried to remove the link from some of them like wikis. For the rest of the sites which were pr n/a or looked spammy, trackbacks etc I imported and posted them to the Disavow tool...
