10k likes just promoting through Facebook is going to be incredibly expensive. Unless you have a local event company or a minor league baseball team i would say it is one of the least effective way to appeal to the masses

Definitely do not want to be promoting them via FB ads. I can not emphasize this enough. The ONLY people i recommend use FB ads are those with a large promotional budget and a local audience they want to target on Facebook. Back to your app, the best way to promote would be to get blasts...
