Hmm but my question is, if authorities cannot take down a site for hosting illegal activities for example a botnet on an offshore host, does this mean they cannot get a user's logs too or is that a totally different thing?

Who said i'm paying for a VPN? If i wanted to do something anonymously i would make my own VPN. My question is why people buy offshore VPSs when there are other alternatives which i stated.
