What's the point of using offshore VPS?

I see people saying they use offshore VPS when doing blackhat stuff.
The thing is they're sort of expensive. Using an offshore service doesn't make you 100% anonymous so i would still use a VPN in the first place.

Instead of using an offshore VPS, you can use an onshore VPS anonymously by using a fake email and connecting only with a VPN. This way they have no trace to you.
Or you can also use a VM with a VPN too, it pretty much does the same thing as a VPS.

Correct me if i'm wrong guys, what's your thoughts about this?

Do you trust that the VPS and VPN aren't keeping logs?
Nothing is 100% secure but the right offshore host can have a little protection depending on what you are doing.
If your business requires you to hide then you should either pay what ever the cost or consider changing your business.
But like I said nothing is 100% secure.

Who said i'm paying for a VPN? If i wanted to do something anonymously i would make my own VPN.
My question is why people buy offshore VPSs when there are other alternatives which i stated.

    Because not everybody requires it.

Some people just use offshore hosting to ignore any DMCA takedowns etc

Offshore doesn't ensure anonymity... the point of using off-shore VPS is to not get your content taken down by DMCA or other stuff.

    Yes, I was.

If you were just asking about running tools then the reason people use them is probably to avoid complaints etc.

Sorry if this is a bit obvious to you but what are offshore VPSs used for then?
If i want to host a website for example wouldn't i use an offshore webhost?

I think we may have our wires crossed.

If you use a normal host and post copyrighted material or the hosts gets complaints then they can take your site down.
The point of using a bulletproof offshore host is that they will (depending on the host) ignore any complaints and your site will stay up.

Oh so you can host websites using a VPS instead of a webhost?

Yes, but check what your requirements are.

Some VPS's are better for hosting, some are better for running tools.

Look in the web hosting section and you will get a better idea:

For most people USA is the best offshore place. Funny, but true. So many things you can do in The US that you can't do in Russia or EU.

Interesting. I've never heard this perspective before. Funny, indeed, how things work out.
