When a client moves, my order is GBP first, then the site (footer, contact page, schema), then the bigger directories, then the long tail.

Not sure thats right though. Updating GBP first means for a while the site still shows the old address.

The bit that drags on is the old listings. Some directories you just edit, some want an email, a few never reply at all.

What do you update first? And what do you do about the directories that won't let you change anything?

id update the website and GBP around the same time, then tackle the main directories first and contact support for the stubborn ones, old addresses can cause confusion tbh.

Updating immediately/fast their website and their GBP account is crucial. After that one should try to update the old directories within a week.

Before changing everything, make sure the new address is consistent across the main business details, including phone number and opening hours.

I’d update the website and GBP around the same time, then work through the major directories. For stubborn listings, contact support and keep records of your requests. Consistency matters, but I wouldn’t let a few unresponsive directories delay the important updates.

totally different angle but how did you land this client in the first place? cold email, calling, or referrals? trying to figure out which works best for finding local businesses that actually want leads

I usually prefer updating the website first, then GBP and the main directories. That way, everything points to the new address as early as possible.

For directories that don't respond, I'd try contacting them once or twice. If there's still no response, I wouldn't spend too much time chasing them. I'd focus on keeping the important listings accurate and consistent.

Update the website and GBP together, then tackle major directories. For listings you can’t edit, contact support and keep a record focus on the important ones first.
