UPDATE: Binance Hacker Reportedly Swaps $5 MILLION for Just $71!

In a bizarre twist following the recent Binance hack, a wallet reportedly linked to the exploit swapped 908,793 PROM tokens, valued at nearly $5 million, for just 0.0316 ETH ($71.45) on Uniswap.

The reason? An almost empty liquidity pool caused an insane 99.999% slippage loss. 📉

Basically, imagine trying to sell $5 million worth of crypto, only to discover there’s almost nobody willing to buy it at that price.

The transaction shown appears successful, but the wallet’s connection to the hackers and the tokens’ actual realizable value still need verification.

UPDATE: The Company Tracking Crypto Hackers Just Got Hacked?

In an ironic twist, blockchain analytics giant Chainalysis has reportedly suffered a security breach, potentially exposing sensitive customer information.

Hackers allegedly gained access to company servers and attempted to steal confidential investigations involving crypto scammers and cybercriminals.

The good news? Reports suggest the attackers failed to obtain the confidential investigation files.

The breach and its full impact have yet to be independently confirmed.

Hacks are something that happen, and everyone knows that their holdings should be kept in a Web3 wallet; only the crypto needed for intraday use should be kept on an exchange.

A huge amount of money has been stolen. The US has launched an investigation, but will the funds be recovered, or will they simply disappear?
About half of the funds were recovered because they were held in centralized cryptocurrencies—specifically, around $3 billion—on the USDC and USDT chains; Circle and Tether simply froze those assets.
However, assets on DeFi-related chains, such as ETH and BTC, are unrecoverable. The process works like this: the attackers route the funds through thousands of different wallets via small transactions across the network. They then gradually move as much of the money as possible into the Monero network (which offers enhanced privacy features). Since Monero cannot absorb such high levels of liquidity, they also utilize mixers like Tornado Cash.
Once they have effectively obscured the trail of the stolen cryptocurrency, they move it into the Asian black market at a 40–50% discount. So, while they may have stolen around $3 billion, it is estimated that they only end up with about half of that amount; the rest is lost to transaction fees (gas) incurred while "cleaning" the crypto, as well as the significant price gap inherent in the cryptocurrency black market.
