The world’s largest crypto exchange is reportedly investigating a suspected hack, with claims of up to $5.8 BILLION in suspicious wallet activity.

Reports also claim that $2.54 billion in crypto has been frozen with assistance from Tether, Circle, Ripple, and others, while Binance temporarily suspended withdrawals for security checks.

Bitcoin reportedly dropped below $79K amid the market reaction.

Binance says customer funds are safe, but the actual losses remain unconfirmed.

If the reported figures are verified, this could become the largest crypto hack in history.

Would you still trust keeping your crypto on a centralized exchange after this?

UPDATE: Tracked wallets are now showing around $5.78B in assets.

If the $5.78B is confirmed stolen, this could be the largest single heist ever recorded.

crypto can have the most secure blockchain in the world, but if the exchange holding your money isn't as reliable as a bank, what's the point?

Classic occurrence in the crypto world and it will always happen anytime, so you must remain vigilant and prepared.

UPDATE: How did the Binance hack actually happen?

According to Binance’s preliminary explanation, hackers may have compromised a DevOps engineer’s laptop, potentially gaining access to internal systems.

Think of it this way: Instead of breaking into the bank’s vault, the hackers allegedly stole an employee’s access and used it to get inside.

From there, they reportedly accessed a service container and initiated unauthorized crypto withdrawals.

Binance says there’s no evidence that wallet private keys were leaked. The investigation is still ongoing.

I don't think its that bad? From what I read, they froze the transfer on Tether and some of the other networks? Although yea "not your keys, not your coins" is very true. I wonder if the crypto is insured like it is with FDIC

UPDATE: Binance estimates $6.3B was affected, with roughly $3B reportedly frozen.

Investigators suspect a compromised employee laptop may have opened the door to the attack.

Even more interesting, on-chain activity suggests a possible NK IMG_6182.webpconnection, after stolen funds reportedly reached a wallet linked to the previous $388M Bitget attack.

Binance says it will cover losses. Deposits are back to normal, but withdrawals remain paused, with a 48-hour recovery target.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspected NK connection remains unconfirmed.

I wouldn't keep all my crypto on one exchange. Exchanges are useful for trading, but for long-term holding, a personal wallet gives you more control over your funds. I'd wait for verified details before judging this incident, though.

I would wait for verified updates before drawing conclusions, as reported figures can change quickly. Still, it's a good reminder to avoid keeping all your crypto on one exchange and use secure self-custody for long-term holdings.

Not your keys not your money as they say in my town xD.

But if seriously guys, I don’t like that even the biggest exchanges may be hacked any time. Better to hold our money on cold wallets
