Before launching a redesigned website, check:

1. URL mapping — Every important old URL has a planned destination.
2. Redirects — Moved URLs redirect to relevant replacements.
3. Canonicals — Important pages point to the intended canonical URLs.
4. Internal links — Navigation and contextual links work correctly.
5. Monitoring — Search Console and analytics are ready for post-launch checks.

One extra step: save a crawl of the old website. It gives you a reference for finding problems after launch.

A redesign should improve the site without accidentally removing useful search visibility.

I’d also check the XML sitemap and robots txt before launching

Sometimes everything looks fine on the website but Google still can’t crawl certain pages properly

A quick check in Search Console after launch can help catch these issues early

Saving a complete pre launch crawl is crucial checking noindex tags on staging before moving to production is also another key check to avoid indexing drops.

I think checking if the redesigned site has lot any useful content that was bringing visitors from search is important.

Great checklist! Saving a crawl of the old website is especially important because it helps identify issues quickly after launch and protects existing SEO rankings.

while preserving the legacy of old crawl may not have been given much attention before, once the new crawl gets launched, comparing the two should allow one to find those pages that were overlooked.

I always assumed a relaunch checklist was just redirects and URL mapping. SEO Executive's warning about staging noindex tags slipping into the live site flipped that for me.

Great information perfect for newbies! Thank you for this!

i'd also submit a test lead or order after launch and check it reaches both the business and analytics. a redesign can leave the pages looking fine while forms or conversion tracking stop working. worth checking before treating a drop in recorded leads as an seo problem.

Excellent checklist! It is particularly significant to store a copy of your previous website before launch since this will enable you to detect any missing pages or link problems that might arise post launch

One thing I’d add is to review the old site’s top-performing pages and backlink profile before launching. A redesign might improve the user experience, but it can still hurt organic traffic if valuable pages are removed, merged, or redirected to irrelevant URLs.

Also check that images and other files are loading properly. Sometimes a redesign can break their links.

I’d first check whether the redesign removed or changed any valuable content that was previously driving organic search traffic.

Good point saving an old site crawl is underrated. Makes it way easier to catch missing pages, broken links and redirect issues after launch.

The above are good checklist. I will also check the robots and XML site maps before launch. Make sure important pages are not blocked or missing from the sitemap.

One more thing to test after a redesign is JavaScript rendering. The pages might look fine in a browser, but Google may not see some important content or links. Checking a few key URLs with Google's URL Inspection tool can help catch that.

i'd also check for noindex tags left over from staging. easy to miss and can cause a lot of trouble after launch. seen this happen more than once
