I’m launching a website with 250K valuable pages, each associated with a different company. I’ve heard that a new domain with this many pages can hit crawl limits or, even worse, be flagged for spam.

I’m wondering what the best approach would be to help Google crawl and index the content safely and efficiently.

Should I do something like this?
  • Content drip: Publish 1,000 pages per day or fewer.
  • Google Search Console: Add the domain but avoid submitting a complete sitemap, allowing Googlebot to discover new pages on its own.
For smaller websites, I’ve usually submitted a sitemap through Google Search Console, and the pages were indexed successfully and relatively quickly. However, I’m concerned that this might not be the best approach for a website with 250K pages.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

drip feeding in smaller batches along with clean XML sitemap chunks works best for new domains so you avoid hitting strict crawl budget limits early on.

I’d focus on content quality and site structure rather than limiting pages just to control crawl rate. A well-organized XML sitemap with canonical URLs, strong internal linking, and genuinely unique, useful content can help Google discover the pages efficiently. Publishing in batches is fine if the pages are ready.

Submit segmented XML sitemaps and make sure pages are well linked internally. The main thing is giving Google unique, useful content worth indexing.

nothing to worry much in submitting a large sitemap I focus on making sure every page has unique, useful content, then split the sitemap into smaller files and submit through Search Console.
quality and crawlable internal links matter more than the daily page count.

A full sitemap is fine. Just make sure each page has unique content and useful internal links.

i wouldn't hide the sitemap. It helps discovery, it doesn't promise indexing or change spam checks. Release one complete region/category first, with its own sitemap, and track discovered URLs, successful Googlebot fetches and the indexed share separately. Check a sample of excluded pages against indexed ones before expanding. If the company data is mostly the same template with names changed, publishing 1,000 a day won't fix that.

A sitemap can help Google find the URLs. It doesn't mean you need to publish everything on the same day, though.
