I would like to try this, but are people on IG even opening these messages? When I log in to IG from time to time, I have to manually enter the chat inbox and then even go one step further to see requests and then go into those to see all the "spam" messages, so I basically never click what people send me. Does this go straight to the inbox?

It goes to message requests. Any message from non-followers (even from real accounts) goes to requests. 80% of ours end up just there.

I have around 1.2mil niche accounts ready for scraping. However, to clients I suggest coming up with their own main accounts for scraping as they know the market best.

Anywhere 5-35%. Largely depends on your targeting and messaging. We message only highly active accounts and that's why we end up on the higher end of the spectrum.
