I have a travel site I launched last with thousands of pages. It got 3k traffic after few months but then stuck there and fell to around 1k. Then slowly this year pages started to rank and it climbed to 6k. Now in last three months traffic jumped 3x since I created more pages.
But it’s nowhere near where I wanted.

I see thousands of pages don’t get impressions on GSC.
1. So I am wondering, should I remove them from site map?
Because now am listing more tours on my site but most of them do not automatically index just from site map.
I have to manually index them which is an instantly indexes them but is limited to max 10 pages a day.

2. One more issue is Bing clicks went from 70 a day to 1-2 a day suddenly two months ago.
Then the clicks and impressions both came back last month which stayed stable but then suddenly went down again this month. Funny thing is both impressions and clicks crashed.
Could this also be due to high number of pages or any crawl limit or penalty from bing?
How to fix that because before I was getting your bookings from chatgpt but now stopped once bing clicks crashed.

What would you do in this regard?
And any free or cheap back links I can build since my budget is not much?

Maybe you could try IndexToast for the daily indexing limit issue... You can submit URLs in bulk and if you're using WordPress, it can automatically submit your pages and posts for indexing as soon as you publish them.

You can read more about it in the thread : )

I have next js site with custom build.

Any idea about bing? I have thousands of pages showing in google but on bing only like 5 pages. What could be the issue?

Are these thousands of tour pages programmatically generated or pretty similar to each other? Bing can be super aggressive with deindexing sites that look like mass page builds.

travel sites often have similar tour pages. add unique details, prices, and local tips to each page instead of just creating more pages .

For indexing, you can also try quickIndex pro and it's working fine now. Keep only the canonical and important pages in your sitemap, and check the console to find out why the other pages aren't getting indexed. You can start building backlinks from relevant sites and split them across the main pages.

Bing performs general better in some niche like Tech, I don't know yet why other niches have this indexing issue. IndexToast can help break the daily index limit

to be frank, I would not worry about the limit of 10 URLs right now; try to understand the reasons why these pages are not getting indexed naturally. only 5 page are showing on Bing search engine – I think this is more of a crawl or quality issue since your tour pages are vry much alike. Have you checked bing webmaster tools?

don't always delete pages from the sitemap. the fix is linking to those pages from indexed pages and making sure they have unique, substantial content. if they're truly worthless, delete them.
Also, only manually request the pages that actually matter for your revenue. you don't need to burn your 10 times limit on every page

Yes, but changing the destinations within tour pages is likely to cause more SEO issues than benefits. Unique local advice, up-to date prices, and information on every activity are what will make people want to visit those pages.

Keep them in the sitemap, that is not the problem. Tour pages are most likely orphaned or thin. Split it into one sitemap per section (destinations, tours, blog) and GSC shows indexed vs submitted for each one, which tells you what type is getting dropped. If it is the tours, link them from the destination and category pages, because a sitemap alone is a weak signal. Also check whether the template carries anything unique like itinerary detail or local info. Tours with only a swapped title get crawled and then left out.

On Bing, impressions and clicks crashing together points to the index and not to rankings. Check URL inspection and the index counts in Bing Webmaster Tools, and set up IndexNow. It pushes new tours to Bing right away and costs nothing. A lot of ChatGPT search results lean on Bing, which is likely why the bookings dried up. For cheap links, go for the operators, hotels and local tourism bodies you already list. They are relevant and often link back.

Thanks everyone , great pointers all around :)

I took all the advices and did this for now:
1. Raised a request with BING and they have escalated my case
2. Removed all the pages from site map, which were not getting impressions on Google.
3. Updated the site map. Where the tour pages will have a separate site map and itineraries and other pages will have separate.
4. Set No-index for the PSEO pages only for BING. Especially for pages, which were not getting much traffic.
5. Started asking for back links to tour partners. This is tricky though because lots of tour partners are afraid to link back to me since they are worried that I will out compete them.

Note- for people asking if my tour pages are almost the same - NO. Most are unique pages with unique itinerary and different prices and schedule. The funny thing is Google has text almost half million of my pages. Meanwhile Microsoft Bing has suddenly stopped. Hopefully, the changes I did will help and also the support ticket raised.

Any thing else I might have missed or any tips ?

Manual requests are capped, can’t get around that. with thousands of pages it’s more a quality/internal linking thing. link new pages from ones already indexed, keep sitemaps clean, merge or noindex the thin stuff. google crawls more when it trusts the site

After you take them from the site map and have deindexed them try reposting some on very similar URLs to what you had before. If these were older articles the big g may now know more about your site and give them some extra love as new pages

Bing escalated my case so hopefully they fix it or atleast tell me how to fix it.
ChatGPT enquiries really dried up since bing issue which is worrying

UPDATE: Just got an email from BING that my website was actually blocked from indexing by bing. They said they can’t give the specific reason why but said the unblock process with take 3 weeks!

So if anyone is reading this thread in future and have issues with bing not indexing or ranking them - raise a request from bing webmaster tools dashboard with screenshots as proof.

It will work most of times :)
