crawled currently not indexed, what actually gets them in

Got a batch of pages stuck on crawled currently not indexed. Nothing obviously wrong with them, they are linked internally and the content is not thin.

Resubmitting in search console does nothing useful, they sit there for a bit and end up back in the same bucket.
What has actually shifted it for you? internal links from pages that already rank, a couple of external links pointed at them, or just leaving them alone and waiting it out

It's better to internal linking from pages that are already getting impressions, it may help

For me the biggest wins are usually stronger internal links from pages Google already crawls a lot, plus making sure the page is actually different enough from similar URLs.

A few external links can help discovery/importance too, but I wouldnt keep hammering request indexing.

If the pages are genuinely useful, I’d improve internal linking, trim any near-duplicate pages and give Google some time.

yeah I’d try stronger internal links first especially from pages that already get traffic. A couple of good relevant external links can help too but I wouldnt keep resubmitting in GSC if Google keeps putting them back. Sometimes the page just needs more time and more signals.

for what it is worth, i would stop asking for indexing after it is crawled. add some contextually related links to the pages that were already indexed and give it some time.

honestly speaking, I would begin by adding internal link on pages which have already received a few impresions rather than using any request from GSC. If the page has already been crawled, then I would look for similar URL nd wait until the proces is completed.

In truth, I would begin my submission with internal link from pages that have impressions. once the page has been crawled, then I wouldn’t continue with my submission.

What's shifted it for me, roughly in order:

1. Contxtual links from pages that already get impresions, with a descriptive anchor. Footer, sidebar and tag page links don't seem to count for much here.
2. Checking if the stuck pages are too similar to each other or to an existing page. Gogle often trets near duplicates as not worth indexing. Merging two weak pages into one stronger page fixed a lot of these for me.
3. Keeping them in the sitemap with an acurate lastmod and within 3 clicks of the homepage.

A couple of external links helped on some, but mostly when the page had something unique. If a batch is still out after 6-8 weeks I merge or noindex them so they're not dragging the rest of the site down.

external links at the stuck pages worked for me, not more internal ones. google already crawled them, it needs a reason to come back. 20 or so links from other sites and most of mine were in within 2 weeks, resubmitting did nothing
