What metrics do you guys check before buying a guest post?

Also, I would examine the quality of the website content referring domains sources of traffic indexing and linking domain rating and traffic may be great individually but a combination of all of these factors may provide a more accurate perspective.

One thing I’d add is checking the quality of the pages that are actually getting traffic. A site can have decent DR and traffic while most of that visibility comes from irrelevant pages or a few unusual keywords. I usually review the top pages and ranking keywords before deciding.

Dr or traffic stats are really vanity metrics at this point tbh, needs to confirm whether ahrefs traffic aligns with actual keyword rankings or is just an expired domain redirection farm

I usually start with organic traffic and topical relevance. Then I check traffic trend, indexed pages, outbound links and the quality of existing content. DR/DA is useful as a reference, but I wouldn’t use it as the main decision factor.

I usually start with relevance, then check whether the site gets consistent organic traffic from the GEO I’m targeting. After that, I look at recent posts, outbound links, and price before deciding.

Most bad links come from the placement, not the domain. I check whether the site has a real section for my topic and look at that category's traffic in Ahrefs or Semrush, not just the domain total. Then I make sure the article angle fits what that section normally publishes. A strong domain with a dead category or an off-topic article still ends up a weak link.

I usually look at DR, traffic, relevance, traffic trend but I still end up with some bad links. Am I missing anything?
my point here is that I always seek to determine the traffic on the placement page since some websites may have a high DR while the page where you wish to place your advertisement has low trafic.

check whether the actual page is indexed. that can help catch some bad placements even when the site metrics look good.

How do you usually compare 20 - 50 potential publishers at once? Do you keep everything in a spreadsheet or use a marketplace/tool?

However while looking for similar sites i came to the realization that DR and traffic do not give you the whole picture in addition to that i would investigate the content of the website the topic the sources of traffic the outbound links and how the traffic is sustained.

I’d also check the traffic source, top organic keywords, backlink profile, indexing, and whether the site is clearly selling links everywhere.

two that are missing from the list. is the sites post from three months ago still indexed, and does the page my link sits on get internal links from the homepage or a category. DR and traffic describe the domain, those two describe the page. i track every placement in a sheet, url, date, indexed yes or no, and about a third of what i bought last year was deindexed by month three. the ones that survived were the ones i pointed a few support links at so they stayed crawled

Nowadays, it doesn't matter ahrefs DR and DA; just make sure the site is relevant to your niche and has better for boosting ranking

DR/DA first just to filter out junk, but then I actually check organic traffic trend abd look
at their existing outbound links,, too many random niches is a red flag. Relevance to my
niche matters more than the metrics honestly.

Yes. DR, traffic, relevance, and traffic trend are useful, but they can miss link-level quality.

Yeah, the time-of-day variable may have a bigger impact on traffic than one might think. I would do comparisons by hour for impressions, spend, and auction rates first.
yes, the hourly statistics can show trends which daily statistics could not reveal. i will start with imprssions and auction statistics before making any changes in bids or budget.
