Important Update: Changes to Review‑Related Services on BlackHat World®

Hi everyone,

We’re posting this announcement to explain an important change to what can and cannot be offered on BlackHat World®, particularly regarding review‑related services (e.g., Trustpilot, Amazon, Google reviews).

This update affects both the Marketplace and, to a lesser extent, forum discussions, so please read carefully.

Why we’re making this change

Following recent legal advice and a review of updated UK consumer protection legislation, we’ve confirmed that services which involve fake or undisclosed incentivised consumer reviews cannot be hosted on our platform.

This applies even when:

• BlackHat World® is acting only as a marketplace or publisher
• The service provider is based outside the UK

As the platform operator, we are legally required to act once we become aware of such content.

To ensure platform compliance and long‑term stability, we are updating our rules and enforcement approach.

What is being removed

Effective immediately, we are removing Marketplace listings and paid promotions that involve:

• Fake reviews
• Commissioned reviews presented as genuine
• Reviews that conceal incentivisation (e.g. discounts, refunds, gifts in exchange for positive reviews)
• Services explicitly offering “Trustpilot fake reviews”, “Amazon fake reviews”, “5‑star fake reviews”, etc., where those reviews are not genuinely earned

This includes:

• Marketplace listings
• Paid advertisements and banners
• Stickied threads promoting such services

Affected sellers will be contacted directly, and prorata refunds will be issued where applicable.

What is still allowed

These changes do NOT mean that all review‑related activity is banned.

The following remain acceptable, provided they are clearly and honestly represented:

✓ Online Reputation Management (ORM)
✓ Outreach to real, existing customers for genuine feedback
✓ Review management tools or software
✓ Reputation strategy services
✓ Processes inline with review service terms.
✓ Customer follow‑up systems encouraging honest reviews

The key test is simple:
If a review is genuine and not misleading, it may be allowed.
If it is fake or disguises incentivisation, it is not.

Forum discussions vs Marketplace listings

There is an important distinction between selling services and general discussion.

• Marketplace listings and advertising for fake review services are not permitted
• General discussion about reviews, reputation, or ORM may be allowed depending on context and wording

What is not allowed:

• Threads asking how to buy fake reviews
• Threads seeking suppliers for fake or undisclosed incentivised reviews
• Content that facilitates or promotes unlawful activity

What may be allowed:

• High‑level discussion about reputation management
• Talking about the role of reviews in marketing
• Asking how to increase genuine customer feedback

Moderation in this area will be context‑based, and we’ll err on the side of caution.

Why we can’t make exceptions

Some users have asked why competitors appear to allow this, or why similar content existed in the past.

The reality is:

• The legal landscape has changed (1).
• Enforcement risk has increased
• Once a platform has knowledge of unlawful content, it must act

Continuing to allow these services would expose the platform — and by extension the community — to unnecessary legal risk.

This decision was made to protect BlackHat World® and ensure we can continue to operate long‑term.

What happens next

• Affected Marketplace listings are being removed
• Sellers will receive direct communication from the team
• Refunds will be issued where appropriate
• Updated guidance will be applied consistently going forward
• In the upcoming weeks, our Marketplace team will actively review all review related services' sales copies. If your sales copy breaks the law and an action is taken against your sales thread, you will be notified. If your sales copy does not, you can continue selling your service.

If you are unsure whether a service or thread is compliant, ask before posting or contact support.

If you see any threads we’ve missed, please hit the report button and we’ll review the content.

Final note

BlackHat World® has always evolved alongside changes in regulation, platforms, and enforcement.
This is another example of us adapting to ensure the community can continue to operate safely and sustainably.

Discussion thread available here - As this is a law, it's not something we can change, but I appreciate that we may want to have our say. Reminder, nothing political, no matter how frustrating this may be.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

— The BlackHat World® Team

Apologies for the longer-than-expected downtime today. We had a few security patches and service improvements to load, including adding word stemming to our search.
(Word stemming can improve searching by allowing multiple forms of a word to match. For example, a search for "test" would equally match "tests", "testing", "tested", and so on.)
The search is now being reindexed and will be fully functional in the next few hours.
Enjoy.
As ever, if you are facing any issues, please raise a ticket with support at https://support.blackhatworld.com/support, as they may already have the answer.

Marketplace Rules Revamped

The Marketplace rules have been reorganized and improved for better clarity and navigation. Core principles remain unchanged.

What has changed?
  • Sales threads can now be reopened within 1 month of expiration (previously 6 months).
  • After 1 month, expired threads are permanently archived.

Additional Updates
  • Clearer guidance on sales copy, service requirements, and category-specific rules.
  • Expanded Content Standards with practical examples.
  • New Quick Marketplace Process Overview for brand-new sellers.
  • And more.

Full details in the Marketplace rules.

Since we're reusing the same Marketplace rules thread, there are no 404 errors, but the context and links might be off. As of now, all automated Marketplace related DMs and posts are now fully updated to reflect the new Marketplace rules.

If you encounter any place (either in DM or Newbie guides or elsewhere) linking to an incorrect part of the Marketplace rules, please report it.

Archive Expired BSTs

Going forward, all sales threads that have expired for more than 30 days (i.e., those considered archived, as listed in the "Closure and re-opening requests" section) will have their opening posts removed from the content. This includes title and sales copy.

Please note that this does not include follow-up posts in the same sales thread.

This has been requested and discussed extensively/voted on before making a final decision, which aligns with what the majority of the community wanted.

This is quite a substantial task, and it will take us a few months to complete.

PS: We highly suggest you "Watch" the Marketplace Changelog if you haven't already.

Rule 3.15 - Restriction of Public Contact Information

As you are aware, from having to accept the Terms & Rules, we have added a new rule to Section 3 - Prohibited Content and Activities.
3.15 - No posting off forum contact information except in signatures, first post of a sales thread and via DM. This includes, but is not limited to messaging services, emails or websites.

This means that off site contact information is only allowed to be posted:
  • In the 1st post of a Sales Thread
  • In an upgraded users signature
  • In a DM (Direct Message)
In addition to adding the new rule we have:
  1. Removed the social media contact fields off the "about" tab on user profiles.
  2. Added 5 sales thread fields where Jr. VIPs and Marketplace Sellers can put up to 5 of their sales thread links.

We have updated our Dispute Resolution Rules to include:
  • The Accuser (person putting in the Dispute) must have 2FA (2 factor authentication) enabled.
  • All communication, from DR process step A to Z must stay on this forum.
  • Once the accused agrees to a resolution, the assigned Staff will take the conversation to DMs
  • If the agreed resolution is a refund, the refund MUST be made to the original payment method provided in the proof of transaction
To read more about these changes and become involved in the discussion, please go to the April 2026 Update to the Dispute Resolution thread.

Today we have pushed some updates to our spam filter to help with some unruly and annoying spam that's been coming through. It is our hope over the coming days we'll see less spam make it live.

As always, if you find spam on the forum please give staff a hand by reporting it. It's much easier to deal with in a timely manner if we're made aware of it!

Today we updated the forum to 2.3.11 & 2.3.12.

There is nothing significant to report in the update. 2.3.11 had a bunch of bug fixes that really don't affect anything we use and 2.3.12 was a security update for .11.

As always when we do a forum update, please let us know if you come across something that isn't working correctly. You can either report this post and explain what's wrong, add in a Feedback Thread, or send a ticket into support with the info.

In any Marketplace forum, Want to Buy (WTB) and Hire a Freelancer, we have added a banner notice at the bottom of the page encouraging members to engage with the seller to be eligible for Dispute Resolution. This notice is static and can not be ignored.

Additionally the same wording has been added to the Marketplace Header.

Reminder, engagement can be posts in the seller's thread or a buyer's WTB/HAF thread if they have the right upgrades. WTB/HAF buyers can easily ask, in their thread, for sellers to DM them if they are worried about not being eligible for a Dispute. If a buyer can not yet DM the seller in sales threads, then they can ask the seller to DM them in a post.

Today we have 3 changes to the Want to Buy, Hire a Freelancer and Dispute sections.

WTB & HAF Sections

1. The "post thread" button has now become "Hire a Freelancer Form" or "Want to Buy Form" in their respective sections.
2. Clicking the button brings the user to a form which they need to fill out.
3. Submitting a new thread via the form is now mandatory.

Members who can respond to WTB & HAF threads should note that the threads will not only be more detailed, for your convenience, but state how the Buyer wants you to contact them.

The rules in each section have been updated to reflect the new situation with the forms.

- Want to Buy Rules
- Hire a Freelancer Rules

Dispute Resolution Section Form Update

The Dispute Resolution Form has been reformatted and updated with new questions.

The new format does allow users with under 15 posts to submit the form. Please be reminded that this update does not change any Dispute Resolution rules or eligibility criteria. Accusers still need to have had sufficient interaction with the Accused on BlackHat World BEFORE any sale or incident takes place. This can be interaction on the sales thread, in a WTB/HAF thread or via DM. As long as there is engagement between buyer and seller to prove that the sale started on this forum.
