Linking by topic has produced mch better results than trying to covers all pages with links. typically a couple of relevant links from high quality pages work much better than cramming 10 plus links every where.

I’ve seen the biggest gains from topical clusters, relevant anchors, and linking strong pages to weaker ones.

Only default flattest site structure linking: from blog post to next post within that page (not a category) where posts are listed (limit it to 10-15 posts) and back to home page not more.

For me an internal link should really assist the user in finding another usefull page. In addition it is important to uses new pages on sites that already have some authority.
Place contextual links within ur first two para graphs that link from ur most trafficked pages to low performing pages using an exact match phrase. google shall crawl the upper parts of the article first so having these links higher in the page gets the juice mchh quicker.

internal linking helps lot when it makes sense for reader. usually link related pages together and make sure important pages easy to reach. keeping it natural works better than forcing links everywhere

I mostly just keep it natural. If another post fits the topic, I'll link to it. I don't really force internal links where they don't make sense.

Unless your page has more than 1MB of code in it before your first paragraph appears in the html this is really not needed.

internal linking seems to be extremely useful in the case u create small topic clusters. thus for instance, there may be one extenssive guide, which will refer to a few smaller articles on the topic, nd vice versa such articles will be able to link back to it.
The contextual back links within the high traffic page and new content make a huge difference imo. Manual anchor text selection is way more effective than some plugin that tries to automate it for you.
i do not really track the internal links anymore. i think about the page nd ask myself, what do u want to read next? it could be one link, it could be several. maintaining the relevance of the links has proven more successfful for me than counting on a fixed

I still find internal linking useful, especially for helping Google discover related pages. I usually keep it natural and link when another article actually adds something to the topic, rather than forcing links everywhere.
