Ask ChatGPT or whatever you use for your own business phone number. Not the name, the actual number and address.

Mine came back with a number I dropped in 2023. Took a while to work out where it got it from. Old listing on a directory I'd forgotten I was even on.

It's not making it up. It's reading it off something that's still live somewhere.

Anyway that's the kind of thing the report is for, you get the URL and login for every listing so you can see what's actually out there. $5 a listing, one off, fixed or refunded if anything's wrong.

Ask a client to search their own phone number instead of the business name and see what comes back, half of what turns up is under an old name or a spelling nobody noticed and some of it has reviews on it they cant reply to because nobody ever claimed the listing.
 
One thing worth knowing before you order citations anywhere, ask what happens to the ones that dont go live. Ours run around 80% first pass and the rest get fixed, redone or replaced free, but plenty of sellers just hand you the list and thats the end of it.
 
If youre reselling this to clients, worth asking any provider whether the report comes back unbranded, plenty dont and you end up handing your client a PDF with someone elses name on it.

If youre buying citations for clients in different trades, ask whether the directory list actually changes between them. A roofer and a dental practice need mostly different sites, and plenty of sellers just run the same list for everyone.

Before ordering citations for a client, ask whether the provider checks for existing listings first. Submitting a new one on top of an old unclaimed one just leaves your client with two versions to clean up later.
 
If a client ever ran call tracking, check which number is on their GBP before you send the order. Whatever number is on the order is the one we put on every new listing.

Mix of three types: general business directories, niche ones for the client's trade (dental, legal, home services, etc.), and geo ones for their city or region. Country-specific too; we cover 50+ countries, and where a country has fewer local options, the mix leans more on international directories. Send the niche and area, and we match the directories to it. You get live links for the auto-approved ones and logins for the rest.
 
Citations are a one time job. if a client needs posts, review replies and photo updates thats monthly work, different thing. Worth knowing which one you actually need before you order either.
 
Ordering for a franchise location? Check the franchise agreement first for which number belongs on listings, the corporate 800 line or the store's own.

A customer calling about one store shouldn't end up at head office.
