Invest in SEO expert or invest in tools?

It would be better to hire a knowledgeable SEO consultant/strategist instead of getting additional tools.

This is because tools will just give you information but you need a person who will understand the situation and develop a strategy for recovering from it.

Neither yet. Tools show you numbers you already half know. And an expert without your data is guessing. Search Console is free. It covers most of it. If I was you I'd spend 3 months in there first, then you'll know what you're actually buying.

As a content website owner doing SEO on my own for last 7 years, I feel lost with the current multiple changes in google SERPS because of Ai. The website has also lost about 50% of organic traffic in last 1-1.5 years.

I feel now I need someone to guide me in this highly volatile SE0 landscape. All the gurus I used to follow are all saying different things making it highly confusing.

Should I hire a new SEO person in the team or invest the same money in tools and supporting resources?

Probably you lost most of your traffic from informational articles, right? You can't do a lot of things about it because we are experiencing a user habit transformation to LLM platforms. By the way, google result page has also transformed a lot.

If the informational posts are not the problem, then figure out the main reason and fix it.

I would choose to hire a professional seo specialist prior to buying more tools the tools will provide information but a person who will be able to analyze the information and develop a proper strategy could be worth more once the traffic has decreased considerably in addition it would be important to know the reason for that.

Before putting more money into tools or hiring someone i would take a closer look at the site first. A 50% traffic decline could come from AI search, Google updates, stronger competitors, changing SERPs or reduced search demand. Once you understand what is actually causing the loss it becomes much easier to decide where your money will be best spent.

If you want to deal with jerks asking for 40x price for SEO service thn real ROI then hire SEO experts... do SEO and article writing yourself.

I’d lean toward an experienced SEO person first. Tools can show you plenty of data, but having someone who can interpret it and prioritize what actually matters is harder to replace.

After 7 years of handling seo yourself, I would lean toward investing in the right seo expert rather than just adding more tools. A good expert should be able to audit what’s changed, identify where the traffic loss is coming from, and give you a clear strategy instead of adding to the confusion.

That would also free you up to focus more on creating genuinely useful, readervfocused content and improving the value of each page.

I would probably invest in the right SEO person first.

Tools can show you data, but having someone who can interpret the changes, find the actual traffic loss, and decide what to act on is more valuable right now.

Nothing can replace an experienced professional in their specific field.

Tools are just mere tool it alone not enough to get the desired outcome.

i think you must hire a good seo expert who is really has expertise in seo after AI as seo has changeed

I’d go with an SEO expert first. Tools are useful, but having someone properly analyze the traffic loss and identify what needs to change can save a lot of wasted time and money.

Invest in expert guidance first to diagnose the actual loss before paying for expensive software suites. Enterprise tools like Ahrefs or Semrush only show data, but an experienced SEO strategist can audit why core updates and AI overviews hit your specific niche and help rebuild your content strategy accordingly.
