What has become easier in SEO over the last 5 years?

In my opinion reporting and keyword research have become much easier collecting and organizing data used to take a lot of time but tools have made that process much faster the difficult part is still knowing which data actually matters and what to act on

The automation point is important too When a system needs less daily supervision you can spend more time on strategy instead of constantly fixing small issues.
Yes, automation is something we can scale up. I used to automate only link building and blog automation, but now my entire fan pages (I have more than 50) are all automated. I have experience only in traffic generation as SEO/AEO, and my entire blog network gets organic traffic. I never wanted to try other strategies, but as a hobby now I'm automating social media as well. So yeah.

i think now content is more to understand and learn seo but it also happen that seo has changed and difficult as it has changed its shape, few years ago people used to get random and spammy backlinks but now google does not allos it and now only quality guest posts are needed and other factors also in seo like content and on page seo

tbh, everything.

codex and claude paired with a few apis, connectors and plugins can do 90% of what you need.

the only thing we still prefer to do manually is link analysis and direct outreach & editor communications (personality beats automation here, imo - although it could be automated heavily)

To be honest key word research and competitor analysis becames vryy much easier. Hours of work that i used to put into this process became something that would take minutes to complete leaving me time for testing.
That’s a huge time saver Being able to cut hours of research down to minutes gives you a lot more room to test ideas and focus on what actually moves the needle.
these daily ones are actually fun… quick enough to do without feeling like homework
That’s what makes them easy to keep up with short useful and never feels like a chore.
For me keyword research and competitor analysis have become much easier. Tools give you a lot of useful data now so finding opportunities takes way less time than it used to.
Definitely having better data makes it much easier to spot good opportunities without spending hours digging through the details.
looking at what competitors are doing became much easier for me after i found a better way to check them.
A solid competitor checking method can reveal a lot especially the gaps they are overlooking and where you can do things better.
For me, keyword research and competitor analysis have become much easier. Modern SEO tools provide faster access to SERP data, content gaps, and competitor insights, so research that once took hours can now be done much quicker.
The real improvement is not just faster research but having clearer insights to make better decisions. When you can spot gaps quickly you can spend more time building strategies that actually have a chance to perform.

SEO has gotten a bit easier in some respects in the past 5 years. Google provides better tools and better instructions, and doing keyword and competitor research is a lot easier with SEO tools. It's also easier and quicker to create and optimize content. It's all about great content that really works.

I read all the answers, and I have a bit of a controversial point to share.

The effect of spamming has actually improved for me over the past few years.

You see, before, Google used to penalize websites for cheap, bad, spammy links. But that created a serious negative SEO problem. A lot of niches were dealing with competitors intentionally building bad links to their sites, so Google eventually had to get better at simply ignoring spammy links.

Now, in my experience, spammy links either work or do nothing, but they don't seem to cause the same kind of penalty they used to.

I use RankerX for this. I mainly use it for short-term projects and target keywords with around 30-200 monthly searches. For those types of projects, I've found this approach can still work.

For me, AI tools have made SEO research a lot easier. Keyword research, content ideas, competitor analysis, and even reporting can now be done much faster than before.

Honestly for me it's content research and outlining. Used to take 2-3 hours per piece manually going through SERPs, pulling common subtopics, checking "people also ask," cross-referencing keyword tools separately. Now that first pass gets done in 20-30 minutes with better tools, which just frees up time to actually think about the angle instead of spending it all on data collection. Technical audits have gotten a lot faster too since crawlers now flag redirect chains, canonical issues, and status code problems automatically instead of needing manual page by page checks. The tricky part is that since everyone has access to the same speed now, being fast isn't really a differentiator anymore, the actual judgment on what to do with that extra time is what separates results now.
