What actually kills the page speed of an web application like wordpress ?

PHP and MySQL database, I think, are the main issue.
Thanks for reaching out . If I use them efficiently still is a problem for wordpress and laravel ?

Using selfhost wordpres, more than three plugins, page builder plugins who create a lot of crawl waste urls, deep silo structure +categories and tags......(crawl waste)

If you know coding, I would choose something else altogether instead of WP. If your sites are mostly static, I would check out Astro.

Php is inherently slow. There is nothing you can do about it. You can make the end product, the website, faster. There are many ways to do it.
Bur if you are using WordPress then it is what it is.

Sorry my typo errors,I meant;

a) not use selfhost wp
b) max. three plugins not more
c) no categories, tags and deep siloing= they all are crawl waste

d) not use page builder plugins
e) setup only default flattest site structure on a blog ( separate domain as traffic hub)
f) show on topical page max. 10-15 posts link to each other post and back to topical page, not deeper.

That's it that builds topical clusters not big pillar pages

Wordpress com is the solution...fast enterprise environment with their reader traffic network built in.

Its a fast wordpress hosting, dont look cheap and people complain about it, do you use a paid plan?

Php is slower and a lot of uncessariy data is loaded therefore more loading and often are wordpress sites hostes on shared hosting instead of e.g. standalone vps

The usual suspect is plugins, but large pictures, scripts from third-party providers, bulky themes, inefficient database searches, and poor caching can be equally damaging. Rather than remove the plugins, I would first analyze the page that performs poorly.

Audit and cut the plugin stack down to only what each site truly needs, then add caching (page and object cache, e.g. Redis) and profile with Query Monitor to find the specific plugins slowing things down.

Yes, when you have a lot of crawl waste, with that comes in a lof of unnecessary database queries, then having 10 plugins....killing your WP website speed.

Solution: use an enterprise environment like wordpress com, keep site/blog flat as possible, no tags,no, categories only 2-3 pages (not categories) where you show a limited number of posts, a default linking next post and back and not more than 3 plugins, I have antispam bee and cookies (for EU traffic), and an email provider newsletter plugin, thats all.

And the enterprise environment of wordpress com will never keep you site down. A tech stack that most webhositng providers not have.

Happy Weekend !

You basically answered your own question there.
But in general, profiling is what will help you out. You should look into profiling both PHP itself(using Xdebug), mysql and the system (DTrace, etc.).

Yeah, that's pretty common with WordPress. Too many plugins can slow everything down. I'd probably remove the unnecessary ones and focus on caching and database optimization.
