cheap backlink will shift figures, but not positions, IMHO in the automotive field. Better to invest in just one or two placements in pertinent sites than lots of irrelevant backlink.

I suggest focusing on a few good links from relevant automotive websites instead of buying lots of cheap links from random sites.

Not buying a lot of backlinks to increase the quantity , Quality of the contents and relevancy is matter a lot.

Buying backlinks can work in some cases, but I wouldn’t treat every paid link equally. I’d evaluate the referring domain, topical relevance, real traffic, content quality, and how naturally the link fits into the article. A high DR alone isn’t enough.

Cheap bulk links will just waste your budget in automotive. Better to get 2-3 links on actual car blogs with real search traffic than 500 links on general link farms.

Yes building links will increase your rankings and positions. Improving DA is the byproduct. Only care about DA/DR if you're a content site earning from selling guest posts.
Backlinks should be build to grow the rankings and traffic. Since DA/DR is mostly proportional to the number and quality of the links, you're gonna see it improved as well.
Just one tip: Avoid general niche links with low authorty.
Try to look for these:
- reevancy
- ahrefs traffic >1000
- dr/da> 30
- do-follow link and natural placement
- stable site traffic for atleast 6 months

You are asking the wrong question, and most of the answers you've had so far are answering a different one.
"Cheap general vs expensive niche" assumes links are one thing you buy once. They aren't. In a niche like automotive where you're competing with sites that have tens of thousands of referring domains, you are never going to out-buy them at the top. Five expensive niche edits will not move a page that a Motor Trend article is sitting on, and 500 cheap generic links pointed straight at your money site will do nothing at best.
What actually works in that situation is picking your fights. Forget the head terms the giants own. Take the long tail pages, the specific model, the specific fault, the specific comparison, where the competition is other small sites and forum threads. Those pages need far less to move.
Then structure the links. A small number of genuinely relevant links, two or three decent placements, go to the money page. Everything else goes into a layer between you and those links, buffer properties with real content, and volume gets built at that layer, not at your site. That is what people mean by tiered link building. The cheap links have a job, it's just not the job you were about to give them.
On "does DA go up", DA is a third party score that Google does not use. It rises when you get links, but chasing the number is how people end up buying garbage. Track rankings on your actual target pages and nothing else.

In the automotive industry, a couple of high-quality backlinks from niche-specific websites will be much better than a hundred low-quality ones.

Inexpensive links could make a difference however, from my perspective, relevancy and the website itself were far more important than the price. When it comes to the automotive industry i could prefer to have several niche links rather than many general ones.

Purchasing cheap, general links represents a waste of resources and increases the likelihood of your site being flagged. Domain Authority remains a third party metric, meaning artificially inflating it with low quality links will not help you outrank major automotive sites.
